Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME/Unity over VNC/x2go/etc?

Anyone got GNOME or Unity in Ubuntu 13.10 working over VNC, x2go, etc? Seems to be a bug with the latest version of GNOME not supporting 2d, non-accelerated mode. VNC log has something along the lines of software acceleration not supported. Did some googling and found a lot of people with the same problem but no solution. Only alternative I can find is to use the XFCE desktop.

Yeah unity 2d is dead. Better to install 12.04, still works great.

  • Or you could install xubuntu, that comes with XFCE by default

  • Yep, XFCE is what I ended up going with. Headless VirtualBox works pretty well.
