Anyone knows what happened between fdcservers and cogent?
Anyone knows what happened between fdcservers and cogent?
They have dropped all our IP announcements costing us thousands in losses and their tech team stopped replying to my emails/tickets over a week ago.
Their sales team is offering me a free month while all of my client's ranges are offline.

Sounds to me like that IP announcement was revoked. Did FDC not tell you anything? Did you announce your own IP or did you lease them somewhere?
I don't think so. I have announced my own and leased ranges. Everything is offline since 25 Sep 2024.
Just before this "Emergency Power and Network Maintenance Notification - Los Angeles September 26, 2024"
They are no longer connected to Cogent as it seems.
Did you check the routing table? Maybe the accidentally didn't announce your IPS anymore. But it's up to FDC to fix this. You could try contacting Cogent's NOC asking them to check their prefix filters.
On 28 Sep 2024, they replied "We have moved under our own ASN with different providers. At this moment Cogent is not part of our network."
We spend a lot of money to announce our ranges over Cogent AS174. I don't know what happened and there's been no reply from their tech team since then. I think they want us to move our ranges over their ASN which is a non-starter.
Why aren't you able to begin announcement via their new blend? Are you saying they just didn't offer you anything at all?
I see. Looks like they stopped working with Cogent...
But I see they still peer with Cogent: https://bgp.he.net/AS30058
If you want Cogent, you can connect it by yourself. But it works only when hosting have own servers, not resale it. Seems like FDC resale servers and do not have own, so they cant make direct contract you->cogent. My regrets.
This exactly happened to me yesterday night with some other provider that had Cogent.
Read my previous, Cogent agreement do not apply with resale equipment
The thing is I don't want to use their blend. The reason behind using fdc is to have Cogent as ISP.
They just left Cogent without any prior notification. I believe at least a few thousands of their clients will be affected by this. Sudden drop of announcement is devastating for everyone.
Dont make sales promises you cant keep.
Anyone knows what happened between fdcservers and cogent?
Nope, but it is newsworthy that Cogents biggest reseller no longer resells them.
So they're just pure GTT now?
Yes. GTT only. Nothing else in LA.
https://fdcservers.net/ip-transit now vs earlier this year: https://web.archive.org/web/20240422180854/https://www.fdcservers.net/ip-transit
I take it you're in a facility they're not in now?
We were going to use FDC in KC but got a better deal with Cogent direct so went that route. Bullet dodged.
Strange. I know they upended their whole business model years ago and went to a Cogent only strategy. They got rid of their facility, colo'd in Cogent facilities and resold space and bandwidth.
I have no insight into the current situation but I can think of several reason's that model can come back to bite you in the ass.
I don't know Petr well but he's been around for a long time. I'm sure they'll figure it all out.
I found this topic randomly
but I believe I now know why I'm having instabilities with the fdc. Before it worked very well, now I'm having frequent crashes and downtime.
Left them already.
