Accuris Hosting - Ottawa Location Down Since September 25

  • I am/was a customer of Accuris.

The outage began ~17:00 UTC on Wed 25th September. I noticed the entire /24 IPv4 drop out of DFZ, with seemingly no abnormalities (eg latency or loss) proceeding it, according to 30-sec monitoring.

I opened a ticket in Accuris' client area about 3 hours later, informing of the issue and asking for an update. That ticket remains open and unanswered to date.

There was a period between 26th September ~16:00 UTC until 27th September ~16:00 UTC (24 hours) where the problematic /24 had flapping BGP announcements, but even when it was announced there was so much packet loss that the service was completely unusable.

The status page somebody posted in this thread is not publicly linked on Accuris' website, not that it is of much use with just a single update. The client area network status page is empty and has remained that way throughout.

I did DM Peter on Discord on 27th after seeing him post several messages while still neglecting the ticket. He said that he was unwell with COVID and provided a bit of an explanation, but no ETA or apologies.

As of current, the ticket is still open and unanswered, and the service completely down since 27th September - though arguably since 25th September. I requested a cancellation of the service on 29th September.

I'm not sure why Peter hasn't updated anything publicly despite seeing him active and participating in public chats on Discord. It's a very strange and sad situation.

  • Whatever is happening with him, he has been active on discord as recently as two days ago:

Ironically, talking about the Verizon outage, and the OOB connection he has to his rack.

  • This is what you get when you have these kids cosplaying a professional company like this guy calling himself the executive director of accuris when is the only person in the company.

Peter seems to be pretty active in IPv6?

Lol, how typical of this forum to turn valid criticism of someone or their business into attacks on their character. Although this user clearly got banned, this kind of stuff being left in here only serves to discredit the rest of the community (and the moderation).

  • It looks like Accuris is back up as of 9:10 AM this morning. No word from support, though. But it does make my move to Servarica easier. If anyone has anything bad to say about them, let me know! It's been extremely good so far, but then, so was Accuris for years for me.

  • For anyone else struggling as you migrate stuff: the DNS servers Accuris provides via cloud-init don't work. You need to make sure you're using Google's, and change your config so cloud-init won't reinitialize to use their broken DNS servers. Then stuff will resolve so you can push all of your things to whatever new host you're fleeing towards.

Servarica is excellent! Nothing bad to say about them.

  • Did he ever explain to anyone what happened?

Negative, as far as I know there has been no public statement.

  • What's the story, @PeterP ?

Cute that I've been away from LET as a provider for a few years now yet I've still got obsessed fans. Also, I'm far from a kid...
