Best way to move from VPS to VPS? Racknerd to Racknerd?

What is the easiest way to change VPS plans, for someone that's not very good with the technical stuff? I have a renewal for my VPS on Racknerd, but I would love to take advantage of their 2023 Black Friday offer. Do I really have to learn how to migrate a VPS?
EDIT: OMFG Racknerd support is totally top notch right now. They upgraded the service and spared me the migration. They also waived the prorated upgrade, which is just pennies, but still, how nice is that? Damn the efficiency kills me. 39 minutes and I'm done! yay @dustinc Anthony Fye just made my night <3

  • I had the same issue. I opened a ticket and asked them to move my vps to new location. The ip was changed only. You can try opening a ticket to them.

  • yeah.. just buy the new black friday offer in any location, and move the data via SSH or just ask them to move vps to new location/new node in same location. IDK if you can downgrade/upgrade. better open a ticket. they'll guide you the exact way.

Yes, I'm waiting on support. This forum is full of pro-level knowledge, so thought I'd ask

Hi @BritnneyB -- I'm happy to hear that Anthony was able to get you sorted out so quickly and efficiently! :)

I'd like to add some information to tap onto what others have pointed out. At RackNerd, we handle upgrades on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the client's specific use case, technical comfort level, and what they're looking to accomplish.

We offer two main types of upgrades:
    1. Plan upgrades: Moving from one plan to a higher-cost plan.
    2. "A la carte" upgrades: Increasing individual resources as needed (i.e. RAM, disk space, CPU cores, bandwidth).

For both types, we strive to perform in-place upgrades whenever node resources allow, eliminating the need for migration and minimizing disruption to your service.

Regarding location changes (which are separate from upgrades), as others have mentioned, we can indeed assist with moving your VPS to a different datacenter location upon request, including full data migration. In such cases, only your VPS IP address would change.

Also, as @JasonM pointed out, for those who prefer a hands-on approach, ordering a new VPS and canceling the old one is an option too. However, this method does require some technical expertise to move data over SSH (using tools like rsync or SCP).

The key takeaway is that we offer flexible solutions to meet various needs and preferences. Whether you need a simple in-place upgrade, a full migration to another location, or something in between, we will do our best to accommodate.

I'm glad to hear you're all sorted out now. We strive to make engaging and working with us easy and straightforward, plus we actually offer true 24x7 support availability, so please don't hesitate to reach out via support ticket if you need anything else down the road, or email me directly at [email protected]

    Thanks!

As long as you don't get their ChatGPT bots.
An outage in their NY location nuked my VM, and they didn't even care.

Dustin is amazing, and heard Anthony is too.
