Contabo USA WEST Approximately 30 downtimes em 6 months
I have been a Contabo customer for over 12 years, but in the last few months, one of my servers has had over 30 downtimes, lasting several hours each, one lasting over 24 hours, and another lasting over two days.
I have not received any compensation, and now they want to charge me approximately $40 to migrate to another location.
At this point, my server has already been down for a few hours.
Is anyone else here having problems with Contabo?

Does CPU steal being so high that it can't even run a Minecraft server without lag with 0 players and chunks loaded as downtime?
VPS and Support sucked for me when I used them.
I use my vps just for hosting a few website, I never consume 50% of RAM or above 30% of CPU, the problem is really in their network.
Just check the htop ssh command to see the CPU steal figure? As sounds like your node is overloaded or just neighbours are very noisy
Cpu steal, poor io, network drops. That's just an Contabo in nutshell.
why's anyone still using contabo
Yeah I was asking myself the same question
I have been a customer for over 12 years, and I have referred hundreds of clients whose servers I manage or configure for hosting, media servers, games, or other purposes to them, and the service was impeccable until just over a year ago. But now I am having problems with a server, and some clients are also experiencing occasional downtimes, and their support is unresponsive in these cases.
conta boo
Endure a few more years, and you'll get used to it. Seriously, why are you still using it?
How about you open a ticket? Maybe can ask to change to another server? Might be due to one user or hardware issue.
I did this yesterday, as soon as the problem started, the network stabilized in the early hours of the morning, and they have not yet responded about migrating to another location. My server, which is in US East, has not had a single downtime in the last year.
Network? So it's network or server issue the support say?
network, but as I mentioned before, whenever the server has a downtime, they immediately stop responding to tickets, and after they come back they don't provide any clarification.
This is what happens when you try to save $2 dollars a month
Hundreds of VPS? Wouldn’t dedis be much more cost effective as well?
Fishy...
Who is the new 10 year younger Contabo today throwing out cheap deals on the daily with reliability?
Contabo support is a joke, to be honest. I've faced several issues with them, from a dedicated server losing connection for days, hardware issues, KVM issues. No matter how critical it is do not expect a response in less than 24 hours and more typically 3-7 days.
However, leave a bad review on Trustpilot and their marketing team won't leave you alone. They'll contact you right away and keep follow up every week asking if your experience has been better and if you would re-consider the review. It is pathetic. If just their support was half as engaging as marketing/sales team then they would be excellent.
But that is my pro-tip. You'll get a direct contact in their sales and customer care department and they are fine with prioritizing those support requests.
It is pathetic really.
Thank you very much for the tip. I will definitely do it.
Contabo used to be good years ago. Now they are more concerned about patching Kernels so you always see stealtime=0 (of course it may be 20-50% in reality) than really helping you if you have a problem. Support reacts in 3 to 5 days if at all, definitely not over the weekend or holidays, or between 5 pm and 9am german time. That is just unacceptable. We had a scheduled downtime of 30 minutes which has been then extended to more than 5 days, without any notice or announcement. Nothing working anymore, email, ecommerce, just everything, server unreachable, support unreachable. Finally unwilling to do a live migration, only after threatening with lawsuit. Unwilling to pay compensation and telling some garbage about 95% SLA. Can you imagine?
Their prices are cheap, their VPS are totally overallocated to the bone, their network connection is extremely slow, even you sit infront of their backdoor, expect not more than 200MB peak, usually 50..100MB/s. It is almost impossible to get any lower performance out there, even your laptop is faster. The main reason is simply overallocation. The service always answers with AI generated prefabricated text snippets, you will find unmodified and identical replies on many user complaints in this and other forums. If you ask for explanation you will just get again the same text snippets. So totally waste of time.
So we join other frequent recommendations on this board: "avoid them at all cost". If you really want to test them, never make anything else than a monthly contract. Still, we rate it as a waste of money, because even the performance is good in the beginning, you can be sure that at least after 2 or 3 months you will face the reality. Just do regular yabs and record it then you will see the truth. We have left this provider months ago, and have to say, the only mistake was not to leave earlier.
Recently they patch kernels, so you always will see steal=0 constantly. Put a lot of effort into it.
I remember contabo was around 4buck. Even contabo are raising their price these day
I started this thread a few hours after the last downtime, when I requested to migrate to another structure, and I asked them not to charge me the migration fee, because the reason for the migration was the number of failures.
After 4 days, they completed the migration, and pretended not to see my request so as not to charge me the migration fee.
I have also now been contacted by the sales team, asking what would be necessary for me to remove the negative reviews I posted on some forums.
I hope that after this migration, the problems will be resolved, since in this other structure, in New York (US-east) I already have another VPS running, without absolutely any problems for a long time.
Despite everything, I like Contabo, mainly because of its low latency with Brazil, and because of its long history, with problems only more recently.
I'll give it one more chance to see if it works, and it will be the last.

Is Contabo the DB of German hosting providers?
Frequent issues with any provider = move to a better provider.
