Thread about provider domain suffixes selection

edited September 2024 in General

When I see providers using .org, it's strange if it's not an organization.

I think the domain name suffix ranking:

  1. .com
  2. .net, .io
  3. their country domain names and .co for startups

.org or .co is registered defensively for historical reasons only.

  • .org means your home is not a mess and you offer a professional service that is not comparable to ___ (insert what you hate most here)

    How do you define organization?

I take 2, 3, and some 4 letter domains as long as the TLD is also 2 or three letters.. My only mistake was one that I picked up a 4 letter TLD on (.link).. It is our most expensive registration and the TLD seems to garner low reputation scoring.. Plan to drop it when the systems using it are retired.
