Wordpress Self Hosting Panel (cloudways alternative)

I've been using Cloudways 2+ Years, and I'm exploring paid or open-source alternatives to host multiple WordPress sites. I've done some research and found a few options, but I'm looking for feedback from anyone who might be using them. Seems like they are ripping me off with 32$ per month with only 2GB VPS resource of D.O which actually cost 16$ only.

Here are the panels I've come across:

FlyWP.com
Cloudstick.io
Coolify

If anyone has experience with any of these panels, I'd appreciate your feedback on their performance, ease of use, and any other relevant platform to host multiple wordpress sites.

  • Why would they be ripping you off?

Why should hardware cost but programmers be free?

    I strongly recommend Enhance.

  • i tried cyberpanel.
    quite lite-weight than other panels.

  • If your just hosting wordpress sites, and you have a vps; do you honestly need a gui control panel? I ask as if you don't mind, https://wordops.net is a great command line tool that with a few simple copy past commands your fully setup with everything.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

    EasyEngine
    Wordops
    Take frequent backups....

  • Definitely CloudPanel.io

Coolify is docker based, similar to EasyPanel. Not very handy if you not familiar with containerization.

    Another tool: fastpanel.direct

  • Serverkade
    Tabb.sh

  • This is a topic that I have researched EXTENSIVELY over the last few months. I have a huge list of different options available, I'm going to expand upon it with some basic summaries and thoughts and info on the costs of each one, and ultimately rank them as far as which ones I find to be the most feasible/realistic to use for different purposes. I'll post it in here later this afternoon.

For now, I'll say this...if you are just looking to run Wordpress and not have to deal with other kind of server management from a GUI perspective, or really to worry about anything like virtualizing different users/userspace with their own ability to install/run things and have their sites/files separated and access enabled for their own control panels, etc. then I would definitely say you should go with Cloudpanel for this.

Cloudpanel is a bit of a hybrid between the ultra barebones type solutions that are truly WP only and a more full-featured control panel like your cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, Cyberpanel type solutions. I quite like Cloudpanel myself, it's quite fast with nginx/php-fpm and some other stuff you can customize and get your Wordpress sites running nicely. Ironically right now the Cloudpanel website is bugging out and throwing an error from "too many redirects" so I can't double check but last I recall there's no built-in email management functionality so that's just something you might wanna take note of. It has built-in Cloudflare integration, let's encrypt certificates are automated, and it's pretty well designed for performance on your server, I would recommend getting something a bit more powerful than the minimum resource requirements though as you'll be running stuff like Redis on it which can use up a decent amount of resources.

If you don't wanna go that route and are comfortable running things pretty much entirely from the command line, you might wanna check out SLICKSTACK - their website is slickstack.io - it's actually rather newbie friendly for people who might be somewhat new to using things from a CLI and it has the benefit of being entirely based on different (well-written) bash scripts and cronjobs so everything will run right out of the box after setting it up. I can't recommend it highly enough, they've got a great community if you need any help (it's a free, open source project, Cloudpanel is as well) and most importantly, Slickstack is literally THE FASTEST I have EVER SEEN Wordpress run in my life. I've been using WP in various ways/forms since roughly 2004 or so, the very early days, so I have tried quite a lot of things and while I am sure there's probably a way to technically maybe beat Slickstack's performance, I think it would be very costly and time-consuming.

I'll stop gushing because I don't want to seem like a shill for either of these two open source projects, but, check them out.

Alternatives you may wanna look into, again, these are more full-featured control panels with GUI interfaces and a lot of server management/user management features and add-ons you can setup, that I haven't seen mentioned in here yet would be:

    • Cyberpanel (cyberpanel.net - from the people behind LiteSpeed/OpenLiteSpeed) - a great full-featured control panel that has a feature set which comes close to things like cPanel/Plesk etc. while being totally free. They have add-ons if you want to get them, I haven't used them though. I do know they have an OpenLiteSpeed WP only release that you might wanna check out, I've not used it.

    • Enhance (enhance.com - paid, starts at $5/month for a bunch of servers) - this is more of a cPanel/Plesk alternative, tons of features, they've been very actively developing this over the last year or two and it's gotten quite good tbh. I use this on some of my servers.

Have you looked into https://fastpanel.direct/ ?

The thing is CloudWays controls are managed for you, hence the cost on top. If you are ok with maintaining your server panel and all related pieces, then yes, you will save money this way. Plesk web admin for 10 domains if you want a supported VPS license, check with websoftsolus for the cheapest licenses. Using Plesk with php-fpm, nginx cache and a docker redis in memory cache works wonders with wordpress.

  • Most of the control panels mentioned in this thread don't have security features, ModSecurity (comodo, OWASP ruleset), firewall, nginx reverse proxy and hardened security.

WP and php applications attract all kinds of attacks, without any WAF it's like roaming in unsafe territory

You will need paid panel for ModSec 9 out of 10 times at least, and if it's included in a free panel, I would be more concerned about panel stability at that point for updates.

That's where CDN WAF excels, like CloudFlare.com free account, it's honestly amazing it's free.

  • I always use Virtualmin , but iam looking into Enhance

But does cloudways provide that? Yeah I always use cloudflare with all my websites.

yeah checked that, it was a bit complicated. I think for serverless projects coolify is better.

  • Cloudpanel for easy management. Previously use easyengine, struggle to enable php debug to investigate error. Can be enabled quickly in cloudpanel

Cloudpanel has just enough feature to easily manage wordpress

CloudPanel, been using it for years it does its job perfectly. Just host your emails on a proper email provider and you are all set.

    Runcloud is good

As a former #1 affiliate and top customer. I will never recommend runcloud. All services hit NGINX errors over a week and support didn’t bother trying to resolve for fix for years before I quit and moved all my clients.

    This is prob paid marketing.
