    Below the estimated plan:

    1. deals available on the API at 8:30am baguette time while @TomasSystems is driving to work.
    2. update of the website once the better deals are unavailable, circa 11:00 baguette time.
    3. advertisement of the BF event once most deals are gone, 14:00 baguette time.

there were few scripts here in the thread for grabbing servers from the api/using the api directly is also an option but requires multiple calls to different endpoints
here is the procedure from @adns

Although with OVH black friday usually isnt worth rushing to buy stuff as most of the deals have historically been shit compared to other sales

Best way is to be active in this thread, to have a working way of ordering via the API, preferably one that you understand because you made it. Then a good idea is to be awake on the day and at the time the community here expect the deals to drop, and to be ready to order. Relying solely on a script to "auto buy" the deals is risky. This sucks if your timezone is not baguette friendly but the reward is a baguette the likes you've never seen before.

Always depends on who you get to talk with, it's the same on their discord. Some leak information about sales and dates, some don't.

The API is the only reliable way of knowing when a sales is going to start and from there use scripts as the website reflects changes too late.

  • @NotFoundException said: when a sales is going to start

Correction: that a sales in starting soon

Sounds about right. Somehow @TomasSystems will still land up with over 100 servers.

LE-B says it's S1200SPL which is mini-atx. I doubt they did their customization magic for this boards and intel says that standard chassis are 1U.

But my point is that economy of scale makes it almost impossible to beat them: you can rent a full rack of servers for 420$/mo.

Basically they already paid off their capital expenses on hardware, DC and infra, most likely their non-eco offers pay most of the operations bill and Kimsufi is just milking old hardware with hefty margins

    Seems a good bet.

Last time the website was updated at about 10:15, with the LE-B indeed already out of stock, and other deals still available at that time.

Did they ever launch an event another day then Tuesday?

I would be very surprised if the hardware was simply 1 per 1U. That'd waste a lot of space.

    https://www.hpcwire.com/aiwire/2013/07/23/ovh_builds_servers_on_demand/

OVH have for years said that they do custom racks and form factors. The fact it's an mATX board is likely because that was cheapest.

I think that Kimsufi is also a symptom of their architecture. Replacing the oldest with the newest probably means emptying datacentres entirely and installing the new rack units. (Like RBX1 with the old old KS servers).

Until you need the space or it isn't profitable, you keep the old ones.
