Raspberry Pi - SDR/Aerial?

Does anyone offer a Pi that has a SDR dongle with Aerial in the US/EU

I'm a hobby fan, and use VirtualRadar with some friends from around the world to combine our feeds, I was wondering if any hosts like this exist? Or even if its allowed? (will delete if its not as to not waste peoples reading time!)

  • I'd venture a guess and say it's not going to happen (at least for most providers) given it's an external component

The only folks that come to mind that MAY entertain the idea would be @DataIdeas-Josh or @jfreak53 (with the latter you'd likely have to colo your own Pi)

Hmm, id entertain it for the right price, colo your own pi that is. However, I'm not even sure it would work honestly, a dc is like a big fat Faraday cage with all the metal racks and metal cases and electronics. Heck sometimes our robo vacs have issues getting back to wifi they get down an isle 🤣

Id definitely discuss it with you, but just keep in mind I can't guarantee its gonna work.

    Good day,
We had a person that ran FlightAware and it worked for the local airport.
It was kinda funny as had a big ole antenna sticking on top of the rack.
But we have done it before if you want to do it as well

  • I have Pi + PiAware setup in my home, but I imagine it might not work as perfectly in a data center?

  • @DataIdeas-Josh hosted our setup for a few months while we were testing things. Obviously got very poor reception inside of the datacenter, but if you were willing to pay to have the antenna put outside you could get great coverage of IAH.

    Thanked by 1DataIdeas-Josh
