Who remembers these type of "attacks"? Do you guys remember these almost exciting or dreaded features? Has anyone here every experienced one of these?
We had one 15ish years ago, we were hosting a doctor that had written a book, and was going on Oprah, so we got things setup and we thought we were ready go to go. Little did we know that during the show as we watched the show and the servers * keep in mind this was back when dedicated were 10/100 Mbps ports with like 3/5TB of bandwidth, this doctor decided to give away his book for free. This was a digital book, a pdf that was 20MB's in size. Now again 15 years ago, this was huge. Oh yeah, he forgot to tell us he was doing this. I think as I watched the show I peed a little hearing that. What a mess, but we were able to put up a quick javascript random link generator, that was able to split up the download between 5 different servers to at least help the load. We managed to handle the load, but man what a crazy few days.
Anywone else have a story they can share?
Thanks,
Anthony
