The DNS A record dns.he.net used to point to is 66.220.12.174 if you need access to your DNS records to copy them elsewhere.

this is insane, a single phishing complaint about a web page holds lots of dns users as hostage.

Yes that it's so insane , and we talk here about he.com , not a random small website

    Wow!

No other words to put it.

Everyone who uses their DNS is dumb. Always make it redundant on all levels, server/domain/ip range/upstreams, everything.

Hurricane Electric supports a plethora of record types that Cloudflare and their DNS resellers like DigitalOcean do not support. Replicating DNS records between providers is a PITA, especially when your secondary provider doesn't support all the record types you use.

Mostly talking about relying on a single domain, they should have used he.net he.org and he.com for dns or something like that. Like hetzner does it with ns.second-ns.com. ns1.your-server.de. and ns3.second-ns.de. even if a domain dies dns still works.

You would think someone like HE would have their own systems and not rely on a 3rd party for let alone DNS.

    Should be sorted now.

He.net, yes is not a commercial solution. What is the best solution for free dns hosting ?

    HE isn't a registrar.

How are they any worse than any other DNS provider?

How is Cloudflare DNS any better than HE?

They aren't. Some of us have used their free services for 10-15 years and can only thank them, while this guy has his own KF related agenda. They generally dislike everyone who's not willing to provide transit to their shitty harassment community.

Like I said above, relying on a single domain is not redundant enough.

Are you stupid or dumb, I am only listing technical reasons.

Becoming an ICANN accredited registrar is a very complex and costly task, and it's very difficult to justify the costs compared to just using a normal registrar.

I do wish that more TLDs would allow individual and corporate registrations for private registrars (i.e. not selling domains to other people) without requiring ICANN accreditation, but unfortunately the way this industry works just won't allow it...

Was his question too hard for you?

Even the nameservers you use with your home connection most likely have one domain, and if you say that's not true, you will be lying anyway.

who does it right: hetzner, desec.io, cloudns and many more.
Guess who does it wrong? dnspod the current DNS provider for KF. :) while they host kiwifarms I will still call them garbage for relying on a single domain.

You can do better than this. For example, call KF management dumb according to your initial statement, unless you're using those words only when it's convenient for you.

Him using dnspod isn't the dumb part though.

We use two distinct DNS providers:

    root@AR750:~# uci get dhcp.@dnsmasq[0].server
    2001:470:20::2 1.1.1.1

In other news, Verizon FiOS has increased the price from $43.99 to $49.99.
We may have to cancel a VPS in order to afford this connection.

Don't they support AFXR? At least HE supports AXFR, and I don't know any record type they don't support as secondary DNS server.

The outage didn't effect me since I host my own primary DNS server, and use HE as secondaries.
