Suggestions for server use

JamphJamph Member

I have a server with the below specs:

8 vCore
16 Gb DDR4 ECC RAM
256 Gb SSD Raid3
1 IPv4
2.5+ Tbps DDoS-Protection
1 Gbps Up/Down
32 TB Bandwidth

Currently it's set as a backup for media streaming, but it's not getting used as my main one is fine.

Has anyone got suggestions for what it could be used as, or is it going to be idling until i stop paying for it?

What thing exactly do you want to accomplish? Squeeze out as much profit as you can from using this server? Utilize all resources you pay for?

Kasm Workspaces are great when you/your family are often using public computers, like in a library or on work computers. I put it on all my idling servers with more then 10gb ram.

If you have plenty of unused bandwidth and your provider is fine with it, you may consider hosting I2P node or Tor relay (non exit one). Depending on allowed bandwidth usage, they can be pretty CPU hungry.

You could go for https://boinc.berkeley.edu contributing this idle computing resource for human science.

It's a platform born from SETI@home (this project currently closed but there are other similar ones), this community was using peoples' spare devices trying to find alien life 👽.
