Improved browsing experience thru self-hosted apps

daviddavid Member

I've found a few self-hosted apps that make a big difference. When searching, if you click on links to Quora or Stack Overflow / Stack Exchange, it can be redirected to Quetre or AnonymousOverflow. And also for Reddit, there's Redlib.

The original sites have become bloated and cumbersome. That issue affects much of the internet today, actually.

Have you used these before? There are public instances you can use, too. I like to self-host it privately, so it will be more reliable. When I use public instances, I find I have to switch them at times, when one breaks.

I use the Redirector extension, so the links are automatically redirected.

Here's links to the projects, and some screenshots. It's an improvement, right?

It reminded me another project - https://github.com/iv-org/invidious
Also, the most favourite (and most used) of mine - https://github.com/searxng/searxng

For search engines, I've got 4get, whoogle, and searxng installed. Searxng is the most polished of them, though all the settings are a little overwhelming.

I haven't used the youtube ones too much, except newpipe on android.

Try immich, its self hosted alternative to google photos! You will be amazed by its features!

Try libretube on android.... it design is way ahead of newpipe.

If you want to selfhost then piped is great too....

In theory those photo apps sound interesting. But I'm used to just searching a "photos" folder on a local hard drive, organized by month and year.

I may check it out, though. The challenge is spending the time to sort through stuff.
