is USA banned from creating OVH accounts?

i got a letter saying my Kimsufi dedi on france is being closed and they want me to transfer.

so i went to ovh.com and tried to order my new server and i'm at the step where it wants me to login and pay.

so i click login and i don't have an account yet so it tells me to create a new account but i can't get past this step because i can't select my country (USA)!

here is the screenshot of my choices -- https://i.imgur.com/JNcCZci.png

i thought maybe USA is at the top of the list but nope -- https://i.imgur.com/8sRd7b1.png

i sent a DM on twitter on monday and no reply.

i sent a ticket on the web but no reply as well.

what is going on?

  • There is a strange story with the OVH in general. Many create an account. After they ask for card verification. They try to pay. The payment goes through and after a few minutes the system gives the cancelation. Perhaps they do not like the IP addresses of some countries or something else. In general, their system is the most useless.

  • I think USA is via https://us.ovhcloud.com/ not ovh.com

  • You might have been on their global landing page... Maybe try from https://us.ovhcloud.com/

Honestly ovh's system is so convoluted i decided not to bother for myself, but i do know that they have a discord and other support channels so you should be able to get this sorted.

If Obviously Visibly Hummus doesn't want your business, take your business elsewhere.
@qps sells dedicated servers in USA and they will drive 8 hours to repair your server.

  • I don't have the answer but I have been considering getting a VPS from them and I noticed that ovhcloud.com redirects me to https://us.ovhcloud.com, where I don't get any introductory offer and I can only select servers in the US.

This site only for US buyers. And only US location available.

    thanks, this works!

however i have a new problem! in the OVH email, they gave me two voucher codes -- one for 15% off for 12 months and another to waive the setup fee

i entered both on the US site but they don't work. i tried on the non-US version of the site and the codes do get accepted but then i can't complete the checkout... sigh

going to contact live chat tomorrow and see i can get codes for the US site.

they are so cheap though! less than 30 bucks per month and i can do whatever i want on their servers including installing my own windows version and torrenting... ehm... linux ISOs

  • If you are in the US, you aren't allowed to use their international site. They force you to use US and you can only use US locations. It is definitely frustrating for anyone in the US because if you want your server to be elsewhere, you need to buy from a reseller.

How do they verify anyone signing up on their European site is not in the US?

They ask for your address and there is no US option. If you try, it will be flagged for fraud so they will either cancel your order or ask for your ID.

US customers used to be able to buy from ovh.ca a long time ago but since they launched OVH US. They stopped allowing it.

Seems you can still buy FR servers from the US website?: https://eco.us.ovhcloud.com/?display=list&range=kimsufi

Maybe you're thinking of their VPS lineup, I only see VA and OR locations when checking out. Similarly the $1/mo VPS promos was not available on the US site.
