Cloudflare- mystery why I get 120ms ping from the same server/Visitor Location
Hey,
Maybe somebody got an idea for that.
The website is under cloudflare proxy.
The server is hosted in Hungary
Visitor is located in Hungary
When i try to ping the website I receive 130ms ping, and the HTML based website is very slow. Did a tracert and somehow cloudflare goes to New York (USA) first, then go back somehow.
Anyone knows how this can happens? Why the traffic goes to new york, when the server and visitor located in Hungary?
I thought cloudflare is handle this more in a smart mode.
If I turn off cloudflare, then everything is blaziing faaast.
Thank You!

Probably your AS is not yet registered as located in Hungary?
Another case: congestions on your way.
The IPs from clidflare can be used in nearly all their DC. So it’s not necessarily be USA. It’s just registered there
Deutsche Telekom Datacenter in Hungary, should be okay.
Also In tracert I can see it goes to nyc, which is 120ms, not just the IP registered from USA.
Strange.
This is the biggest issue of a free plan. The routing very often goes around the world. You can optin for Argo to have a better routing.
Visit https://yourwebsite.tld/cdn-cgi/trace and see what
colo
andloc
you have there.Putting a barebones Workers proxy in front of your whole domain, and then passing in any Cloudflare anycast IP you deem on higher plans as the A record is guaranteed to fix that problem.
This is exactly how you can manage to use anycast IPs announced by a Cloudflare-upstreamed network with your domain. Check this out:

Also, what is your latency to these IPs?
Thanks for the answers.
Found the problem. FREE plan
https://community.cloudflare.com/t/our-server-in-frankfurt-germany-eu-is-being-proxied-from-the-newark-nj-us-datacenter/610483/8
in your DNS settings you can choose to either proxy a address or not, i always have better latency when proxying the address but your results will vary
Of course it’s DTAG
Yup the higher the plan you go, the better the routing. I did a write up at https://community.cloudflare.com/t/improving-time-to-first-byte-ttfb-with-cloudflare/390367/ including how you can use Cloudflare GraphQL Timings API to get your TTFB metrics for cached/non-cached requests at the Cloudflare Edge and also for your origin backend requests
DTAG is such a pain...
You should check Bunny for CDN and DNS.
Do they have a direct peering / uplink to DTAG?
@ZweiTiger if you're kungarian, check PROHARDVER! forum, especialy Telekom topic. It is a serious problem since years, Telekom routes CF on very different paths, but since a week, they constant route free plan to USA with a lots of packet loss...
Don't know but you can create an ticket to ask them, they respond very fast!
Does Bunny support IPv6 for DNS yet? They didn't when I last checked.
If the website is static host on CF Pages.
Thanks, changed to bunny.net CDN , problem solved.
Come back with an review after some days.
