    Proxmox likes this.

  • You can still get free ESXi key, so it is fake.

These things happen anytime Broadcom touches something.

Thought it worth mentioning that vmware was never interested in expanding the small customer base which was mostly represented by the products such as ESXI free version.

You can still get trial, so get trial (ISO is the same) and just enter your ESXi free key.

Isn't it only 6 months at a time and no clustering?

I wonder if it also affect the version for Raspberry Pi!?

I will gladly use Proxmox 8 forever then. Since they cant really apply the changes to old versions anyway.

You are correct. But they can pull the plug on support. And without routine security patches you are as good as brown floater in the water.

What I want to say - Broadcom made massive vacuum. If Proxmox willing to play the game - price increase incoming and strict limits for free version also on the line.

You don't have vCenter so yeah no HA, no storage API, and 8 vCpus max per VM, but it is free forever, I didn't heard about 6 month free license. Trial is for 60 days but you can "crack it" and refresh for another 60 days (forever) if you need HA, storage API etc. for non production usage.

Video title I saw on YT yesterday:

"Ubisoft says 'get used to not owning anything'. Broadcom says 'hold my beer'."

Single disk. You can attach multiple disks.

How will this affect VMUG members is the next question I would think. I was about to join but am skeptical after the takeover

I believe that is due to snapshotting and storage hopping issues, APIs timing out and various other problems.
We have limited our qcow images to 200 GB in order to minimize failed migrations and broken snapshots.

Just in that very slim chance they go radio silent, I downloaded the latest ESXi 7 and 8 ISOs with the license keys and put them to GDrive.

ESXi is garbage tier software anyway.

Try, absolutely, at least you know there is an alternative which could be better for some usage scenarios.

Damn, there are a lot of changes.
True, the number of products and options was staggering and I am sure many customers were confused, it is better to pull the plug all at once.
Happy to use FOSS only products.

Sad to see this happening, but Broadcom does Broadcom things and sucks all the life out of the things they buy.

Sounds like what happened to cPanel

Relying on ESXi was a tremendously dumb idea ever since Proxmox appeared.

I've noticed some things still run smoother on ESXI vs Proxmox.
    Each has it's own place.

For big enterprise they still rather pay a company like VMWare rather than the support for Proxmox. So all in all it makes sense.
