What OS do you use on low spec vps

What OS system do you guys prefer on low spec vps, like vps of 30gb space or so.
How do you guys maximize space on low spec vps??
Comments
low spec, 30 GB.
30gb is a lot. You might be able to save a little more by going for some even more exotic choice but i'd simply go for a minimal install of Devuan. If your basic OS install takes up more than 1 or maybe 2gb of space you are obviously doing it very wrong.
Hint: At the extremes even Debian can be rather easily trimmed down to to about ~150-200mb.
Ubuntu + rclone mount.
Thanks. How exactly this can be done? Any tutorial link
lol, sorry I just meant in same range of 10-20 gb.
low spec? are you kidding?
debian 12 - microlxc 64MB package
Thanks, but that will need permission from vps provider to install custom iso, isn't it?
Debian + Nginx is my most usual system.
Minimal install + rm, rm, rm. Don't think there's any actual tutorials. You basically need to know which parts of the system do what or rather which really do nothing of value to you.

Debian 100%, but you need to use ssh terminal no desktop envoirement. Most of my webservers (low-end vps) I deploy Debian + Virtualmin for management.
Debian.
To save some space, always delete:
Alpine Linux.
But I'd use Debian for my lowend vpses anyway
Yes, that's a good and absolutely safe start.
localepurge
is another easy and safe option to safe space. Beyond that deleting unused kernel modules should also be rather easy without much much background. Going further it gets somewhat tricky to know what to delete though, i fear. You can get a minimal but usable openSUSE into a hundred megs or so ijs
Then he'd be using Suse though.
At this point, that's better than the RedHat flavor of the month. Things staying consistent isn't always bad!
Hannah Montana Linux and very rarely if I have to fall back to it, holy debian which may also be cause I only somewhat know alpine and don't really know fedora etc
Edit: why bold and not cursive
Edit2: ah got it thxnbai
I have never done custom installation on my vps yet. Is it easy for some one who haven't done before? where do I start? I am worried I might end up screwing if I keep following any random Google article. Sorry this is very basic question, but I have no idea.
By custom installation you mean installing from an ISO, i guess? Or is it one of the more fancy options? As far as screwing up goes: Most Linux installers are fairly simple. You'll hardly have to do anything but press OK and if you really screw something up beyond repair starting over is always quick and painless. None of what has been suggested here is all that risky either. It's like you'll be surgically remove binaries, shared libraries or other system components.
Just try you can reinstall as many times as you like you cannot fuckup
I have several successful Debian 12 instances running on a 5GB disk and 128 MB of RAM.
Debian 12
I successfully managed to install it on just 1TB so surely it'll work with any modern hardware.
Finally, I recommend everyone getting an iPhone when you're getting your next phone, as their much better compared to Androids.
127G used for

... What did you do, install Firefox? Also, which SSH client do you use on your iPhone? I've been trying to find a good one to have work push to my phone to use the work VPN profile. So far everything I've suggested has been too expensive for a one-off (Fortune 100 companies like site licenses, sigh), has strange security concerns I didn't look for, or doesn't work with forced VPN profiles.
LfN by GNAA, perfect for lowend deployments.
no OS.
@lewellyn none, sometimes I get angry texts about everything going down when I’m out, then, I have to hurry home
Been thinking about always having a laptop with me
Edit: Yeah, only 127G used, Firefox not quite done downloading yet
They really included:
