    @randvegeta you still with us?

  • Nameservers down.

  • that was quick

  • Tele-Asia seems to still be routing traffic although their DNS servers seem to be down.

    The VPS located in Hong Kong has also been shut down. Apparently this isn't just the nameservers being down.

    It's really unwise to put two DNS servers on the same subnet, especially if it's not anycast. Never put all your eggs in one basket.

    You have 1 little outage in the middle of the night on new years eve, and you're dead pooled.... :# .....

    It was a building wide power outage. Some 2500amp switch failed and had to be replaced. Being New Years Eve, none of the millennials wanted to work on the day, the boomers are retired and Gen Z don't work at all...And even if they did... would you really want them to? No no no.

    Anyway... power went out and the UPS battery capacity wasn't large enough to keep everything online. Traffic was still being routed because the core's battery is the largest, but most of the racks only have enough for few minutes.

    There's an on-site generator, but realistically that needs some supervision to run safely, and as mentioned... our millennials were caught with their pants down on this occasion. BUT AGAIN... at least we have pants!

    Battery capacity is being increased this month, especially for racks with more important equipment/servers. I'd post more details but I don't think anyone actually cares about our backend infrastructure. Do they?

    Do you own the building? Was there not any hands staff available for a building wide outage?
