Strange Downloads on My Server

Hey everyone,

So, recently, someone shared the website iknowwhatyoudownload.com with me. Supposedly, it lets you see what has been downloaded using your IP address. Well, turns out, when I checked my server's IP address, I found some stuff I've never downloaded before. Sure, my server has downloaded some torrents, pretty standard stuff. But this time, it was all porn movies that I've never even seen.

What's up with that?

I'm a bit freaked out because usually, this suggests that someone else has used your server. The weird part is, I can't find those downloaded movies anywhere, and everything seems normal. CPU and other resource usage are fine, I've checked the ports, and there's no sign of anything fishy. So, seriously, what gives?

Is there someone out there breaking into servers just to download a couple of porn flicks? I'm really hoping it's just an issue or delay with iknowwhatyoudownload.com's data. Thoughts?

  • Do you have other people connected to your wifi? Maybe you are on a CGNAT
Also, some trackers (like piratebay) drop in additional torrent files in your downloads.

Its a dedicated IPv4, and I've never used Piratebay.

  • You mean you are relaying through a VPS?

no, just download and seed something.

  • Don’t worry too much about the results from that site. It’s known to show bogus results. Quick search online and you’ll know it.

  • That's something I won't trust unless i am seeing the logs pointed to my IP, i am guessing it will show torrent activity despite i am not using that. Lemme test that out 😁

  • Perhaps it was done by the previous user of this IP? VPS providers may assign the IP address of the previous user to your VPS. :o

If that’s the only evidence I’d just ignore it
