I have to do it only once, when the the server is first deployed, or maybe once after a few months. So, I can handle the pressure/anticipation of the score. :)

The inflation should not be high or any higher then now. KVM Nodes are closed for new sales.
I recently learned that i should use SSDs with SLC nand instead of TLC/MLC instead for better longevity and results :D

Unfortunately alot of SSD vendors (even Samsung) use TLC and MLC which is more cheaper for production but the performance and longevity is not as good as SLC.
SLC nand costs them more at production of this SSDs. So they prefar TLC/MLC/QLC.
    Cost decisions of SSD Vendors.

Yea, SLC is the best there is, which is why they are used for caching on DRAM-less TLC and QLC SSDs. MLC are used mostly for enterprise only, but these come with low storage options.

Most of the consumer SSD market is filled with TLC and QLC (TLC for Boot Drive and QLC for Storage). Even for DCs, manufacturors use TLC but with additional features. The Micron 7450, Samsung PM9A3, SK Hynix PE9010/PE9110 are all TLC drives.

  • name a few that uses SLC? quite uncommon

Crucial MX500 (Only MX, NOT BX. BX seems the cheaper variant of Crucial, i think???)
Fanxiang (almost all of them) - example S201.
    Samsung 970 Evo Plus
    Western Digital Blue SN550
    Intel 660p Series
    And some AData.

And yea you are right. Even most of the "Premium" Vendors such as Samsung are TLC. Even the enterprise grade ones.

I mostly look at the cache type now and technical data sheet. Rest seems marketing

mid low end ones , easy switch. i would avoid adata as they are known to switch components after initial reviews

I like the Crucial alot. Currently testing longevity of Fanxiang in 20 Dedicated Servers (not used for VPS but rented to customers). 2x1TB raid1 on each dedi

Apart from the highly reputable ones like Samsung, Micron/Crucial, Western Digital/SanDisk, SK Hynix, and Seagate, there are a few other ones as well such as Solidigm (previously Intel), Nextorage (Phison's brand, formerly Sony's), Sabrent, Silicon Power, and TeamGroup. You can try these 5 as well if you get a stock at good price for their models.

seems like 970 EVO plus is TLC?

since SN550 is on the list, i presume DRAM is not critical?

then my personal fav is SN770.

edit: but wait both sn550 and 770 are TLC

Samsung could be TLC, i thought it was SLC.
