So how’s the hype this year?
Well, first 2 days it was 2k posts per day, then I might have killed the activity
I am now waiting for @dustinc to decide if I should hide the stats column or not. (it was not my idea, I only implemented, and it looked interesting, but @FrankZ decided to stop palette posting because of that
)
@dustinc Thank you so much for doubling my bandwidth. Much Appreciated!
It’s a good move I would say. Keep it all “manual” effort like last year.
Once again, thank you all! Special thanks once again to Dustin! That was very nice of you.
I would say now the thread became cleaner, but also much less activity here, even these palettes attracted some responses from members like "I like what I see", "it reminds me"... and then discussion might start, now there are moments when the thread is more idling than my RN VM
Happy birthday once again
If it wasn't you, the giveaway might not have happened!
(even though I didn't win this time, other members are happy
)
Or it might be pre-mature Black Friday burnout. Everyone goes crazy for deals, then eventually it wears off. It's the same reason many retailers abandoned the bad idea of "Black Friday Week, deals starting Monday before Thanksgiving!"
Well, @FrankZ was targeting 10k posts in this thread before the introduction of a new number
Before the moment he was posting ~500 posts per day, after that first day was 110 posts, today he didn't even participate. Other members didn't tell any targets, but I guess, when competition is "gone", others are also not interested. Or maybe everyone is afraid that Dustin will use the new statistics to reduce the post count... We didn't hear anything from Chef about that, but its just numbers that I could aggregate
Btw, any suggestions on what I should opt for, I'll be going with the resource upgrade.
My VPS is:
2x E5-2697
2.5GB RAM
55GB SSD
Should I go for CPU or RAM upgrade 🤔
I suggest keep it this way so that people will actually type things instead of auto posting some junk all day
I would definitely go with RAM since you already have 2 cores, but it really depends on what your use case is.
at this point there's no reason to think dustin will change the rules of the thread. my guess is he won't since the rules were in the first couple posts and the event runs for a while. it would really just cause a headache to try and changes the rules after the party starts. the extra stats on the site are just numbers with no impact on the contest, only one number matters - the total post count. everyone can keep operating exactly as they have been.
I suppose I'm off to bed now. g'night everyone! congrats again @sh97 ! and see you all tomorrow
It was zero all along. Increased to 8 once the logic for calculating similar comments was tweaked. No further change since then.
That's the same response from most of the members here, but in general, if we look from Dustin's perspective, this thread is to attract some sales. So he should answer if posting "junk" as you called it, attracts more sales, or cleaner thread is better. Introduction of stats page last year increased activity on the thread a lot. Adding more fun features did also great, now I added a feature that decreased the activity, so I'm afraid that I did a bad work for Dustin...
The junk seems makes it seem active
Yes, and that activity keeps the thread in first place, so it attracts new members to see the deals...
Hi there, nice to see you again
how ya doing?
Happy Birthday @sh97! Wish you the very best. Thanks for swapping giveaway prizes - it seems to have worked to both of our benefit. Enjoy your birthday. And congrats on the recent giveaway/birthday-gift!
Happy Birthday!
i would prefer CPU, 2.5gbram is enough for majority of things. But operations running a bit more fast and smooth saving time that feels damn amazing.
That was very kind of you. I think the community benefits greatly from people like you and @sh97 and I'm sure countless others! Keep being your awesome self.
Entirely depends on your case but if there are no other limiting factors, would pick RAM over CPU as the former is dedicated to the VM. Additional CPU doesn't guarantee that it can be used as desired, depends on the hypervisor and load on the host node.
Very thoughtful giveaway, Dustin. And super sweet of you to praise @sh97 and dedicate this to him. He's shown a lot of kindness, and I think good people deserve good karma. Kudos!
I agree with your view, @MrEd. It's definitely more manageable to read and respond to actual posts, and build discussions. As I mentioned earlier, I'm new here so I'm just happy to go with the flow. Certainly not after any of the top-post-prizes. Just here to chat and enjoy the community.
For some reason,
i am sleeping every time there's a giveaway.
My F5 skills is wasted.
Agreed - no reason to change the rules. Just keep with the existing rules from the first page: "For posts to be eligible and counted -- they should be generally helpful and neighborly towards the community. It’s our goal for this to be fun for everyone and it’s community-focused, meaning we’re all among friends - therefore we reserve the right to disregard posts that are naughty or just not nice!"
I think @MrEd's stats page is really neat. I'm a numbers guy and I can also appreciate the effort that went into building out the site.
Don't worry, I was not sleeping this time, I even turned my laptop on, but I was not fast enough
Morning. What did I miss?
@dustinc Please double the bandwidth on the following order: 8648824516
Thank you!
