No recurring 35% discount for Singapore DC?!

No, the 35% recurring discount is for Europe. For Singapore DC, will work the other offers:

    KVM 512M: just โ‚ฌ19.95/Year. Use code: HALLO512M23
    KVM 1G: โ‚ฌ31.10/Year. Use code: HALLO1G23
50% off your first payment. Use coupon code: MASSACRE5023.

    Humh...

Packages are discounted with very low configurations

You can use the 50% discount, on any package from our website. This is a huge discount, so you can try out our servers.

    Curiosity.

    What's the difference between:

    KVM 512M / KVM 1G from 1. LET Forum's Spooktacular Specials ๐ŸŽฉ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ

    and KVM 512M / KVM 1G plans from 2. Mysterious Global Discounts - 35% Off Recurring! ๐ŸŒŒ

...or those products are the same (within listed locations of course), just discount a bit different (better in LET Forum's Spooktacular Specials)?

the first 2 servers from the first offer are very discounted, discount between 44-50% and it's recurring. This is obviously a better deal, and it's also working on all locations we have.

The 35% Recurring discount is working only for servers from 7 datacenters in Europe, but the discount can be applied for more powerful servers as well, not just for the first 2 plans.

    Another question.

I checked test IPv4 and IPv6 for .at location in RIPE database. I see proper "netname: VPS-Vienna-IPv6, country:AT" entry for IPv6, but IPv4 show "country: RO" entry. The same with Serbia. Proper IPv6 and wrong IPv4 geolocation.

Does all IPv4 subnets in .at and .rs geolocate to .ro country? Isn't this easy to switch properly in RIPE database (like you did it for IPv6) unless you share the same /24 among several locations which I doubt.

Indeed, We can't change the geolocation from Ripe on all Ipv4 subnets, but we have contacted all major geoip databases like MaxMind, ip2location, google, and others. If you check on multiple websites, most of our IP addresses are geolocated correctly.

I saw that, but those relatively small private geolocation databases used by small portion of the internet useful mostly for quick lookup sadly won't fool major players unless RIPE database contain proper geolocation and in your case it does not (for IPv4, IPv6 have correct country entries).
    Thanks for the answer, tho.

I understand your reticence, but you don't need to worry. We keep in touch with most of those who provide geoip services, and most websites use maxmind geoip.dat, where our IPs are geolocated correctly.

@virtono said: and most websites use maxmind geoip.dat

Sadly that's not true. Maxmind is insignificant for most of the internet. It's just small private geo-db company (one of many) used by hobists and some small businesses.

    @Rockster said:
All other tiny-mini commercial private databases like at LET glorified maxmind together don't reach even 1% of the internet.

We have data on 6,527 companies that use MaxMind. The companies using MaxMind are most often found in United States and in the Retail industry. MaxMind is most often used by companies with 1-10 employees and 1M-10M dollars in revenue.

    Further explanation:
    (quoting old posts)

    @Mumbly said:
Some local services work only with IPs allocated by local LIRs. If service in Belgium want to limit access only to Belgian people/area they will limit access to IPs allocated by Belgian LIRs.
    RIPE databases: https://ftp.ripe.net/pub/stats/ripencc/2022/
    Example from RIPE database:

    ripencc|IT|ipv4|2.58.208.0|1024|20190322|allocated
    ripencc|NL|ipv4|2.58.212.0|1024|20190322|allocated
    ripencc|PL|ipv4|2.58.216.0|1024|20190322|allocated
    ripencc|FI|ipv4|2.58.220.0|1024|20190322|allocated

(IT = Italy, NL = Netherlands, PL = Poland, FI = Finland...)

Small private geolocation services like maxmind, Ip2location etc... does not help you here. IP subnet needs to be allocated by RIPE directly to the Belgian LIR (ISP, hosting...).

They same way work some other services. As example I am from EU, but it took some time (years...) for Spotify to come to my country. In case I wanted to have access to the Spotify I needed to use IP from some other EU country which already had Spotify service available.
Same goes with (sports, etc...) broadcasting rights limited to certain area.

Life would be much easier if everyone would use just those small private geolocation databases like maxmind, Ip2location... but in reality just small portion of the internet use them. All bigger players like Google, MS, etc... have their own databases and many other use just RIR (RIPE) databases.
You can't really win here unless you use IP by local LIR (local ISP).

    &

MaxMind is not an "official" IP address allocation database, just one of many relatively small private companies and as such relatively insignificant compared to the rest of the internet. The same goes for Ip2location, IPinfo, KeyCDN, Ipregistry, Digital Element, ipstack, IPWHOIS ... and several others.
They are fine for quick lookup, but most of the internet (especially services which require local presence) don't use that.

Of course, not everyone needs IP to match real location. If you use VPS for backups, some private project, etc... you won't even notice or care that most of the internet sees the location of your UK VPS as North American or something. But for a VPN or something ... It's on a case-by-case basis.

Anyway, I am not complaining or anything - just wanted to explain you importance of keeping RIR database updated.

  • virtonovirtono Member, Patron Provider

We are not in contact just with maxmind, that was just an example. We are always updating our geolocations on all databases we find. More than 90% of our customers are satisfied with our services and with geolocation of their IPv4 addresses. Also, not all IPv4 ranges are in the situation you have described.

Thank you for the knowledgebase shared.

Thank you. I have doubled your Bandwidth.

  • Hey @virtono, one quick question. I ordered a VPS from you guys yesterday and had it provisioned instantly. Been a customer before, and, I was always happy with the service. However, when I logged into my VPS today, for the first time, I noticed that there was a last login recorded from June 15th from an IP from India. It could not have been me as I obviously just ordered, and I am not from India.

I noticed that there is not much history, but obviously that can be erased and also that a lot of the /var/log files have data recorded as of June 14th.

So the question is, have you given me someone else's VPS by recycling the VM and not deploying it?

If yes, how secure is that? How can I be sure that there are no rootkits, malware or sniffers there? How could I trust a host that does this?

    Thanked by 1alicom13

The OS templates have been made by Virtualizor, and these guys are from India. Can you tell me what OS have you chosen so I can take a look?

Anyway, you don't need to worry, these templates are used by more than half of the hosters from LET, and most of them are using the same panel with the same OS templates.

    @virtono

Are you a weird guy or did you maybe simply serially misunderstand me?

Well, not really "more", just still what I've asked for already twice.

    processor? RAM type/speed? SSD speed?

You see, if the processor is a Xeon E5 v2 - and it seems it is because why else would you consistently ignore that question, even actively by taking it out of your quoting of what I wrote - your offer is very significantly less tasty than a v4 Xeon based one would be.

I'm asking because I don't understand you/it. So I simply ordered one of the VMs on offer to test/benchmark it - and lo and behold, it's a really nice machine! Xeon Gold processor, DDR4 memory, and even a decent SSD (4t/4k ca. 17.5 MB/s and ca. 4500 IOPs, not bad at all!).
And even the connectivity is quite good, especially for the low price: Pretty much all european targets above 100 Mb/s, the major ones even up to over 500 Mb/s, nearly 120 Mb/s across the Atlantic (WDC), even the Iraq target ca. 155 Mb/s, and, a very nice surprise, the 2 targets in Africa solidly over 50 Mb/s (one even almost 90 Mb/s)!

Short, assuming that all locations have processors in the same performance ballpark (mine is in CZ, Prague) this is a really nice and attractive offer! Why the hell didn't you simply respond to my repeated question by saying something like "processor min. Xeon E5 v4 or better, DDR4 memory, and not a high end but a very decent SSD"? I bet that would have helped your sales.

Well, whatever, I'll repeat it clearly: (assuming all locations are more or less equal in terms of processor and SSD) this actually is a really nice offer.

One noteworthy point and a small detail though: My price in the panel with the most recent code applied) was not listed as โ‚ฌ (or$) 2.50 but rather as 2.45 - but, and that's the more important point, according to the panel (when buying) the price listed here is without VAT (but the user panel once one has the VPS also does list "โ‚ฌ 2.50"). It might be helpful to clarify that point, Virtono.

Thank you for your order. I have doubled your bandwidth.

Indeed, additional IPv4 are not available for KVM512M and KVM1G, they are available starting from KVM 2G plan.

Sorry for not answering, I might have missed it.

Yes, We use Intel Xeon Gold 5218, DDR 4 RAM, Enterprise SSDs. We have the same configuration on all our nodes, in all our locations.

    Thank you for your support!

P.S.: Your price is โ‚ฌ2.5, โ‚ฌ2.45 is the recurring discount offered.
