If you do decide to proceed with this, I would be willing to take 40TB SSD (or more) if that's an option. I would be using it purely for backups, so 99% of the bandwidth would be inbound and there would probably be low I/O usage.

Respectfully, I think this is weird (the OP).

I see basically two types of legit clients,
    (a) pure storage, i.e. lots of Raided space, cpu not important, 1 GB Ram plenty enough, storage x 0.5 (normal), storage x 2.5 (burst when the house is on fire) traffic volume plus ideally a smallish (15 - 20 GB) fast volume for OS, etc - done
    (b) DB, video, etc, i.e. CPU important, sensible to plenty (preferrably fast) RAM, kinda large to really large not slow storage, largeish to really large traffic volume.

Those two types are pretty much mutually exclusive. (a) is very price sensitive, (b) much less so, for (a) the game basically is fat, fat storage, reasonable traffic volume but the cheaper the better. For (b) otoh the game is "power!", fast everything, price can be reasonably high.

The OP basically missed both target groups because many type (b) clients will want more cores and at least a part of the storage as fast NVMe, while type (a) will just see "2$ per TB, yuck, and way too much RAM and CPU power".

Your later offer plan with a Xeon v4 and a bit more storage looks more reasonable to me but type (a) will mainly still see "2$ per TB, yuck, and way too much RAM and needlessly many cores".

And you MUST offer something outstanding to halfway balance out your USA-only (and then, frankly, only a part) location.

  • I'll take 3 of the Pro Stash plans as soon as they are available 😁. I'm not sure how you're doing those prices but other vps providers are gonna be pissed at the competition you're giving them.

  • Pro Stash looks great.
Some additional questions, do you limit the hard disk IO/read/write speeds per VM? (Actually limiting might be better instead! To be able to avoid prolonged noisy periods for certain users)

If I need more space for storage backups or file distribution, can I buy a couple (say 5) and work order a config consolidation?

  • How about some 512gb or 1t plans too ?
    1c, 1g ram
    Some cheap plans, yearly.

  • Pro plan look great. May get one when it comes out. Maybe will migrate from my current provider.

  • Pro Stash
    4 vcores (E5-2699 v4)
    8g Ram
    10TB Pure SSD storage Raid10
10Gbps shared port + 200TB data, when you hit limit auto throttle to 200/Mbps
    $19.95/mo + $4.95/setup fee (5% off if paid annual + no setup)

Like I said instant buy for me. You'll become aLET legend

What would be the price with annual payment just out of curiosity?

5% off if paid annual whatever the monthly price is

I'm amazed that SSD storage VPS is this affordable nowadays.

Hardware costs in general came down.

I will update you guys once its ready to order. All this missing parts we didn't have are on the way. Mostly a bunch of 8TB SSDs.

Thanks for all the feedback. Since Big VPS Storage is the key here, I decided use an E5.
So for the first storage node I am going with the trusted Intel E5-2699 v4.

Still deciding what do with bandwidth/data. Its going to be limited to avoid abusers/seeders. I would say our target client is someone who needs a great vps backup server on a good network in the USA.

Here is what I am at. Let me know what you think of the BW data. I think 10Gbps burst is a must. When someone needs to reload a backup, they don't want to wait for 1Gbps speeds.

    Standard Stash
    2 vcores (E5-2699 v4)
    4g Ram
    5TB Pure SSD storage Raid10
10Gbps shared port + 100TB data, when you hit limit throttle to 200/Mbps
    $9.95/mo + $4.95/setup fee (5% off if paid annual + no setup)

    Pro Stash
    4 vcores (E5-2699 v4)
    8g Ram
    10TB Pure SSD storage Raid10
10Gbps shared port + 200TB data, when you hit limit auto throttle to 200/Mbps
    $19.95/mo + $4.95/setup fee (5% off if paid annual + no setup)

    *Data limit is total in+out.

Thanks again for the feedback, support and orders!

    How about the below? Possible?

    2 vcores
    2g Ram
    ²TB Pure SSD storage Raid10
10Gbps shared port + 50TB data, when you hit limit throttle to 200/Mbps

    4 vcores
    8g Ram
    10TB SSD storage Raid10
    1Gbps Unmetered
    ~$19.95/mo~

    Would this be a win?

    Aint you single homed?

We are muli-homed to Lumen & Cogent. Cogent is failover only if lumen goes off via routing priority settings. Routes are just better with Lumen

    Sounds good, when available?

Sounds tempting - would you consider allowing ballooning/upgrading storage after the fact?

Have 2T of backups that grow ~200G monthly and would love to eventually upgrade further.

    EDIT:
    YOLO RAID on these?

I will consider doing a smaller 2TB plan.

Hopefully late next week sometime things will be ready. Sorry no pre-orders

    2 cores
    2 TB ssd
    4 GB ram

I would buy that. Great combo for me (PBS).

Any interest in a 20TB plan or larger?

Yes. I guess I do have that need.

Im looking for 80TB in after raided storage, but that's a lot more than 20.

But 2 x 40tb can work if I can merge the two with minio or something.

  • Can you wget these from your network and post results ?

I want it , but I'm afraid you won't be able to make margins on this offer. B)
