What providers do you use for production ready in locations (Singapore/USA)

elmorigselmorigs Member

Please share what providers you would recommend for production ready, and what your requirement list normally looks like when filtering to find a reliable/production ready provider.

Etc : provider with own hardware, many years in business, wholly owned network. specific hardware setup

Are backups services part of your consideration or do you implement your own setup? Im aware not every provider provides backups. Share your solution if you don't mind :)

How long have u been using GC? And what is your data backup policy if you have any?

  • VirMach in USA....using it for 4 or 5 years now. Last year was very shitty though but once they upgraded/migrated everything to AMD Ryzen, it has been very smooth.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend purchasing any VPS from a provider that offers services through LET for Production purpose. There are too many uncertainties associated with them.

    1st tier: aws/azure/google cloud
    2nd tier: do/linode/vultr
    3nd tier: hetzner

For backup, opt for one that offers a snapshot feature and preferably has APIs available. This will allow you to automate the backup process by writing a script to perform regular backups. Personally, I use a Github Action script and schedule daily backups.

  • vultr & do

I beg to differ, unless Providers themselves state that it's not for production usage, different support levels etc. then I agree not for Production cause they had said.

For me, RackNerd @dustinc , GreenCloudvps @NDTN , Smarthost @SmartHost , Crunchbits @crunchbits all are very good for Production just because of good uptime, reliable and support.

    No problem with them.

Now I'm evaluating production usage for HostBrr @labze , let's see!

I'm sure many other providers here can be use for Production as well.

Providing at a low cost does not means cannot be used for Production and it's not as good as other providers.

    Let our providers here comment!

    Just my few cents!

Would hardware failure and raid failure be handled the same way as big providers like DO/Linode ? Im sure if one of those providers have a failed node customers data are probably safe ( please correct me if im wrong ) but majority of LET providers do not provide backup solutions and customers have to be responsible for their own backups in case of total failure. @NDTN Care to give your 2cents on this?

  • Not me but one of close friends is using WebHorizon's Singapore VPSes and he always says nice things about that service. (sorry, can't elaborate more as I'm not the user)

  • WebHorizon
    Speedypage
    Shockhosting
    Expertvm

  • Can vouch for vpsdime & hosthatch. I been their customer for past 5 years & still too.

No potential downtime. Both are rock solid providers ( though I have used their BF & Promotional Plans ).

Vpsdime for US location ( customer support is good ) & Hosthatch for other location ( customer support is okay ).

In regarding the backups, you should keep up.

Alias, Now using Greencloud, Webhorizon ( SG location ), Smarthost ( letbox NL location ) they too performing well.

    Kindly consider them too.

I have never used vpsdime so I have no reviews. As for Hosthatch, I have experienced it and found it bad in terms of performance.

@serverian (vpsdime) is a good & reputable player in Hosting Industry. Plus OG of LET too.

    Search reviews on LET.

    Highly recommended one

Thanks, because vpsdime there is no datacenter in Singapore, it may be difficult for me to experience it.

  • Hosthatch was my option for SG, for backup stuff I always doubt even big providers so it must from me responsible for this. I use borg and send it to my hetzner storageboc and local disk mostly time.

  • Some of these suggestions for production ready :D

    Thanked by 1emgh
  • Greencloudvps + Hestiacp + storJ for backup

  • I currently use (in my production):

    • HostHatch (backups & control panel, not the end of the world if it goes down, actual sites won’t be affected, if it’s down for too long, that’s an issue but in that case I’ll redeploy)
    • Backblaze (redundant backups, nearly identical in what files are stored as on HostHatch)
    • OVH (the mission-critical part, 100 % on dedis)

Apart from the above, I use BuyVM for personal use, but wouldn’t dare to use them for production-use since you can’t scale. Not only can’t you scale vertically, but also not horizontally (always out of stock), same goes for basically every mentioned provider in this thread.

I honestly feel bad for the unsuspecting clients some of you put on said ”production ready providers” if by production we mean the same thing…

Yap, I think the key thing is backup and restore plan. Many people had also given this valuable advise. I think no matter how big or small your server company is, you need to have a backup. Just to note, even big companies close down or shut down your services suddenly.

And always remember to practice your contingency plan incase you need to use it, you can at least ensure it work before!

  • For SG, my production currently on: WebHorizon, Webhosting24, and GreenCloud.

Not so active on LET: Vultr, MaxKVM
