  • Dunno if you mean verification of online services or if the phone numbers, but smspool.net (and their carrier lookup) might help ya.

  • Verification to deter fraudsters from multiple account registration.

I see. https://www.ipqualityscore.com/phone-number-validator/lookup/ is alright for that purpose.

Yes, I do, and we have integrated all of them into our WHMCS module "Phone Verification System".

    Check it out at https://marketplace.whmcs.com/product/1834-phone-verification-system

    and for documentation https://layerlabs.gitbook.io/phone-verification-system/

If you have any questions, even if not relating to the module, let me know - happy to help :)

Someone with average tech knowledge can easily defeat these.

Mentally strong seller speaks to the buyers on the phone directly.
    That's called friendly customer service.

I've used this module since 2019, specifically with Twilio as the SMS provider, and it works well

Thanks for being a customer! We have sold a good number of licenses for PVS, but a bigger chunk of licenses are for our abuse manager pro, very helpful when it comes to managing abuse through the customer lifecycle :)

  • Which one is the cheapest solution? All major providers have complicated pricing, hidden fees etc.

Ive been using msg91, it was the cheapest and didn’t need me to purchase a dedicated number like vonage and twilio (which they charge you monthly for). They even helped sort out the sender id for local sms in Dubai. Literally paid what was displayed on the website and no hidden fees.

How do you like their whmcs module?

It's a waste of time and money. A person can successfully change several cards in order to register where necessary.
Not all countries receive SMS correctly in roaming or not at all. You will only create a problem and lose a client.

  • It increases the cost to cheat. That's the whole point. Everything is bypassable, no need to repeat the obvious.

The best way to increase the cost is to directly charge more :D
No need to pay for SMS API, but the illicit actor still has extra cost

Well you could just force user to made some kind of prepayment, like pay at least for 1 year of service

We ask customers to spend at least 20EUR (think of it as one-time fee) per unblocked IPv4 to allow 25/tcp (SMTP), works fine so far

    Not if you want clients

I love how by all experts here, Google, Apple, Microsoft etc etc has it all wrong

  • Plot twist: service is free.

The most funny thing is that since our launch we had 0 abusive clients who pay in crypto but 1 who paid by debit card (they have hosted child porn)

People who want to register multiple acccounts use sites like smspva. Smspva use real physical sim cards, so these numbers are not detectable anywhere as "fraud". My point is - you cant foliter out multiple signups by checking if phone number is "valid".

You should implement device fingerprinting, something like https://fingerprint.com or similar - it work quite good and you can easily detect multiple signups from same device.

  • Another interesting problem to solve: bounces. Does anyone use some de-bouncer services for email check?

Unfortunately you could not eliminate 100% of them, but Postfix's address verification capabilities will help you (for free!)
