GoDaddy VPS Review - Unmetered (& Overpriced) 10Gbps Epyc VPS
Yes, we all know GoDaddy is a terrible host, treats you like a child and is overpriced. But I was looking for a VPS/dedi for a Tor exit relay, BuyVM has too many exit relays, and many hosts disallow exits. I also know Tor is mostly abuse traffic but I still want to run exits.
While GoDaddy is far from a low end host and lacks the features of hosts featured here (no custom ISO). It's understandable since GoDaddy's target customer is less tech savvy than a LET host's customer base, but I was pretty impressed that GD gives a unmetered shared 10 Gbps for a very good price.
I have the 8GB plan for $60/mo, while more expensive than hosts like BuyVM and ReliableSite, is an option if you need high bandwidth.

While GoDaddy doesn't have the best disk performance, presumably last-gen SATA SSDs (but when I ran a LET host, it's not like I was better), but GD does a good job with network performance.
For some reason, Geekbench failed, but then I converted the VPS from AlmaLinux to Rocky Linux and enabled SELinux. I could still download Geekbench's tar.gz archive, however, so running an exit wasn't the issue here.
I also use DataIdeas and TerraHost for Tor exits and while both are to no surprise better hosts, I wanted a mix of hosts. TerraHost has the issue of very little low end dedicated stock and not allowing exits on VPSes, but I have a $29 dedi.
What it's for & not for
GoDaddy is a good option if you need unmetered bandwidth, can't get hold of BuyVM stock and don't mind being treated like a child. If you want to run a Tor exit with a reduced exit policy (I just allow 53/80/443), it's a decent and underrated (but pricey) option. GoDaddy could still kick me out anytime which happened with a few hosts I won't mention.
GoDaddy is overpriced for what it is, so if you're just running a small blog, there are better options here at LET offers. While I gave up on FreeBSD a long time ago (blame poor drivers), if you want BSD or custom ISOs, run away.
Heck, ReliableSite (and DediPath before they shut down) are cheaper for a Xeon dedi versus GoDaddy if you aren't interested in running Tor/VPN like me and are fine with 1 Gbps.
But as always GoDaddy will treat you like a child the way a LET host won't, so keep that in mind.
Comments
A different brand sold these, for 80% off a few days ago.
2G one was 1.19€ rest was a steal too.
For the price its a steal but 60€ for 8G quite expensive.
That's what people here usually pay per year.
Yes, It seems HostEurope has a strong cooperative relationship with GD
yes, because HostEurope is owned by Godaddy when they bought entire HEG (Host Europe Group) in 2016-17 including tsohost, velia, server4you, serverloft, heart internet, domainfactory, mr site, webfusion, 123-reg, evohosting, internet24, donhost, vidahost, paragon internet, etc.
GD's dedicated server line is all from OVH. same plans, higher pricing.
That is true. I only use GD since they're far more Tor friendly than many other hosts, including LET/LEB hosts and OVH (which I left).
While GD is not as Tor friendly as BuyVM or DataIdeas (why I have a reduced exit policy), GD is still good for using a less popular network for "diversity" reasons and surprising for GD which has the reputation of "you're an idiot" to customers.
I can understand why many hosts hate Tor and find it easier to disallow it, or only allow middle relays.
I wouldn't use GoDaddy for a non-Tor exit service, since there are cheaper options out here.
It's surprising to see GoDaddy allows Tor Exits. I believe there are definitely hosting providers that are not only Tor friendly and allows exit but also cheaper, you just have to look very hard for them.
