How do you plan to do that when you do not even have money to purchase hardware ?

Exactly. He offers just a few promises and a possible license (so far is just a screenshot from Osie presentation video).

But maybe we all got it wrong. Maybe he just wants to have a "lunch" (as in thread title) at some datacenter with working servers. I believe this is doable and maybe some datacenter can help him out with having a lunch among servers.

As someone who's eaten lunch in several datacenters, it's not enjoyable at all. He should rethink his goals.

@FlorinMarian enjoy lunch in his DC. Both are romanians. Even saving money for breakfast in DC afterwards !!! Less transport

This is possibly true because of the noise. However, think about the filtered air, the cool weather inside, the blinking lights, the company of so many users (some enjoying Netflix region, others gaming, others streaming, others enjoying porn, others torrenting, and so on) - you are enjoying your meal with so many other people. To some people having lunch inside this could be fun; possibly because they would not work there every day.

You should offer Breakfast/lunch or just shots in the DC. You could call it the Pirate ship DC. Buy alcohol, food and make x3 pricing like the clubs . Many geeks would love to visit the pirate ship DC and eat /drink alcohol in it. ;)

I never thought about it this way, it honestly makes the datacenter seem less lonely. Most of the time it's just me and maybe a single remote hands tech in the DC. Now I can think about the users keeping me company whenever I have to make a trip to the datacenter (but I'm glad I don't have to do it much)

I disagree, it's quite nice and cool.

Edit: Aiyo, someone commented already on it!

I think it depends. Is it nice when you get to eat the free snacks before you get to work and go home? of course. Is it nice when you HAVE to eat lunch there because you're definitely going to be spending the next 20 hours inside the DC? much less so.

Romania is a great location for torrenting and DMCA stuff (as long as this lasts). Therefore I like to see more investments and more competition.

  • I thought this would be an actual custom solution.

Turns out, it's just a different stack.

I mean good luck but there's nothing differentiating you besides the different panel itself. I don't see a specific uniqueness yet that'll make this a success and a real competitor of DO/Vultr/Linode.

DigitalOcean is a publicly traded company and they have 15 locations worldwide. They make over $500m in annual revenue and have a market cap of over $2B.

Vultr has 32 locations worldwide. According to Businesswire they've surpassed $125m in annual revenue.

Linode was recently acquired by Akamai for approximately $900m. Akamai is a publicly traded company with a $16B market cap.

These companies have their own proprietary cloud control panel and billing systems, all in one. They employ a ton of staff to maintain their infrastructure.

You want to start an IaaS product that is similar to DO/Vultr and compete with them. Big, bold claims and you haven't even offered your first product yet.
