Hardware for virtualization?

I'm unsure about two hardware options for running a KVM VPS.

Option 1
Ryzen 7900x
128GB DDR5 Memory
2 x 4TB Gen4 NVMe (RAID 1)

Option 2
Dual Intel Xeon E5-2680v4 CPUs
128GB RAM DDR4
2x 480GB SSDs (Software RAID 1)
3x 1.6TB NVMe SSDs (Software RAID 5)

Both around $150 per month.

What would be the ideal choice for running approximately 60~80 KVM VMs?

Do the numerous cores of the Xeon make a difference, or is the newer technology of the Ryzen with a higher clock speed more worthwhile?"

    First for single vps performances
    Second for "whole" performances

    ^ Agreed

I dont think that you get 60-80 vServers on that Ryzen

I've already run 60 VMs with an E5-1650v4 (6c/12t), so I think the Ryzen 7900x (12c/24t) could handle it as well.

My impression is that CPUs are underutilized for most applications. So I would just ignore the CPUs in your case.

Memory size is important, but the two options have the same memory size.

Storage size. Option 1 has 4 TB. Option 2 has 480 GB plus 1.6 TB * 2 (after RAID 5), which amounts to roughly 3.68 TB. Option 1 is bigger.

    I will take option 1.

I would go with Option 1 - better RAM type and simpler RAID setup
