Hivelocity VPS Beta Review

I was offered beta testing yesterday and quickly had some tests on their VPS offerings. As some of the members here might be interested, here is a review. It is still in beta so things could change anytime, and this review only reflects what was observed at the time of testing.

I'm testing on the 1C/2G plan. Their minimum plan is 1C/1G, which I assume will be priced at $4.

Overall performance looks good for me, given the the price point.

The network is a blend of local exchange + HE + Cogent + Lumen + Telia (as far as I can tell). They do offer IPv6, but only /128. A /64 block costs $2.5/mo. The traffic included is 10TB/mo, not sure if it is in+out or out only. Either way, it's generous enough.

Their control panel looks clean and is intuitive to me. Custom ISO is supported. There is no rDNS/PTR support as of now. Port 25 is blocked by default but I can request to have the ban removed. Automated snapshots are available (not sure about the cost).

I'm still using a $4 DigitalOcean VPS for some projects, will consider switching to Hivelocity when the beta ends.

    Lmao.

  • Performance metrics for "given" vps is null as it is cattered towards testing.

I thought hivelocity will not do this:

    • find "reviewer"
    • give him "special" test vps
    • ask or imply to give review in public forums

Paid ipv6 is sheer embarasment. Even @FlorinMarian and @Calin able to give free ipv6 from their garages and closets.

    Disgusting.

I was "given" three VPS in past two months.
None provider asked for pubic reviews.

No implication or direct request for review should be made.

Best reviews are done in double blind mode.

    • There is company X,
    • person A buys VPS,
    • spins random user list on random.org
    • sends password and ip for person B in the list
    • person B logins to the vps and launch yabs, perform mutliple tests
    • host website for a year
    • after 365 days (366 in leap year) the review sent back to person A
    • person A publishes review

    The perfect chain.

It comes with a /128, which for most will be fine. Unless you need 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 possible IPv6 addresses that a /64 would grant you.

The only reason why I personally like larger IPv6 subnets isn't because I usually need multiple IPv6 addresses for a single project, it's just because I like to create a vanity address that are more easily readable and fun.

    Ha.

Nah, I'm agreeing with you. A /128 is perfectly fine for most. 1 IPv6 address for 1 IPv4 address.

Am what? Since when is IPv6 subnet about number of individual /128 addresses? Maybe you should read some rfc instead of comment things you have no clue about ...

The only people given access to our free VPS beta program are existing customers and maybe a few folks who heard about it and asked. We have not asked anyone to post reviews for us but we have asked our beta testers to provide us with feedback via our discord so we can work to perfect the product. Enjoy your weekend the same as I have your conjecture.

  • For the ones remembering, are you guys also getting extreme @Clouvider vibes here?

  • It seems good and thank you for sharing. Waitttttt for the public launch.

  • not amused with this cpu. a more powerful would be better
