Permission denied when accessing folder

My WordPress is installed at following location:

/var/www/WordPress/html

It's owner is someuser:someuser and folder permissions are 750 while file permissions are 640

I am logged in as myuser who is sudo user and when I try to access above folder then I get access denied error:

cd /var/www/WordPress/html
-bash: cd: html/: Permission denied

I try to add myself in someuser group as follows but still getting error.
usermod -a -G someuser myuser

How to fix this issue without assigning 755 permission on directory?

    Wouldn't you need to

    usernmod -a -G myuser someuser

    Instead?

  • No, that is correct. I logged out and logged in again and now I can access the folder.
