German phone plans for foreigners?
Hello everyone
My friend's moving to germany for 2 months for education, so we were looking for phone plans for her.
All we were able to find was plans from the major players (O2, Telekom, Vodafone) which were around 100Euros + activation fee, and an MVNO site we found (mega-sim.de) required a german ID to continue, so I was wondering if anyone know any mobile provider a foreigner can sign up.
- Our requirements are the following:
- 50GB+ LTE/5G data (unlimited would be great, but without super low speed limits)
- 100+ mins calls
EU roaming (seems like this is required by law though?)
Payments with foreign issued credit card (we have Visa, Master and AMEX)
- Accepts foreign issued passport or driver's license as a form of verification
If anyone could help, that would be super awesome!
Thank you in advance

Lycamobile.de
60GB LTE, not sure about 5G
Unlimited calls
EU Roaming
29.99euro per 28 days

I'm not sure of your definition of super low speed limits but o2 unlimited with 10-15Mb/s was available for around 40 EUR/month when I was last there.
MVNOs with much higher speeds were very expensive for mobile data otherwise with harsh fair usage limits.
Holafly might also be an option?
Afaik Freenet Funk works via App, does not require web identification iirc(?!) and can be cancelled daily. Only payment method is PayPal:
https://www.freenet-funk.de/
It costs you 1€/day for unlimited calls/text and unmetered data. 0,67€/day if 1GB/day is enough.
You need to check about eu roaming. O2 network .
There's also Fraenk (belongs to Congstar, so Telecom Network which is best) which gives you 7GB data + flatrate for calls/texts at 10€/mo.
Can be cancelled monthly. All possible via app apparently. Payment via PayPal.

Identification is apparently via app + travel passport/id.
Edit: nvm, not enough data.
Not sure how I missed that. I'll have a look at it. Thanks
Yup, was actually looking to other options like Holafly (Three AT) as well if nothing came out
Didn't know there's an app for that I'll have a look at it as well. Thanks
Yup, you'd have to check individually. That said, 50GB is lots of data for "German" data plans, so unless you go unmetered (like the one above) prepare to pay rather alot. Sim.de has like 37GB for 14,99€ atm (iirc), but it's bank transfer/sepa only I think.
If you can get smth cheap unlimited from Austria like Drei and it includes roaming in Europe, I'd choose that
Yup actually looking at those options as well. Although going something hybrid with what you shared + Lyca with the 9.99EUR intro offer seems good as well.
Theyre low end provider, expect no support etc.
I'm using them in Poland, 35GB and unlimited calls+sms for $4/mo on 3mo prepaid plan, but they dont have MMS at all - because of that I cannot sent long text messages from my PC as MS Phone Link app converts it to MMS automatically.
Speeds for me are 40-100Mbps download, 20-40Mbps upload. Connects to 5G.
On polish SIM eu roaming works only in 3G, but my truck driver friend has german Lyca and he has 4G working in all EU countries. YMMV, do research, eu roaming is free, but nobody guarantees good speeds on roaming.
Keep in mind 9.99eur intro is for 6months. If you cancel before 6months you'll need to pay 29.99 for these intro months. Thats why I said 29.99/mo.
Read terms below the offer.
OMG totally missed that part. Thank you for the heads up!
