Cloudflare tunnel for passing network traffic?

MMzFMMzF Member

Hi there, i remember one i read somewhere that cloudflare tunnels are able to pass network traffic from one computer to another just like a vpn, Example: running cloudflare tunnel on a cg-nat home server to access home ip at work place. I was wondering if someone has tried or have better free solution with good uptime?

Cloudflare tunnel to pass traffic doesnt work for me (i tried setting up several times but failed), the cloudflare docs i feel hard to understand.
I would still like to test out cloudflare if someone succeeded and can guide me?

Can you guide me? please write the steps, i want to see why am i failing.. i believe i am misunderstanding steps. Also in private network what range of ips to use? of ethernet port?

  • Violation of naming VPS/VPN (Virtual Private Server/Virtual Private Network). Even NAT VPS also included.
The fair deal would be to provide actual vps with ipv4/ipv4 instead of a centralized mirror from which anyone fool end user very easily and no longer been private either because every activity been monitored by third part tunnels provider (Cloudflare...etc)

  • I also use Tailscale instead.

If you need help setting up, ask

Can you please mention 1 link which shows to use it as VPN if the server is cg-nat, like tailscale has to use as exit node

I'm not going to Google 'tailscale cg-nat' for you and post the link.

  • cloudflare should work with private subnets but you need the warp client

Tail scale is working for me it was easy and simple. I am trying to make cloudflare tunnel work as i was having trouble trying to use it.

Has someone successfully able to setup tunnel for networking? i see warp to warp still is in beta https://www.cloudflare.com/lp/warp-peering/

You can use Cloudflare Tunnels (and it should work much better for NAT punching), I would recommend Tailscale though its much easier to work with.

The idea with Cloudflare Tunnels is to use Cloudflare Zero Trust: https://developers.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-one/applications/non-http/arbitrary-tcp/

That is something else, i am currently using tailscale, i was trying cloudflare zero trust before tailscale and failed every time, now i want to make cloudflare working but still need guidance..
my use case is i have server at home behind cg-nat, i want to use my home ip on my other devices (but without another server or paid methods) like tailscale has option to set one device as exit node, exactly that thing i want to achieve with cloudflare

Oh that'll be a huge pain in the ass, unless you're willing to spend the time dealing with routing tables i recommend you not bother.

asked you earlier asking again what's the problem? where are u stuck?
i've installed WARP client on my main pc connected my zero trust teams and added all my remote devices on tunnels, one agent/tunnel for each device exposed by unique private network ip /32. if you put 2 devices in one agent or non unique ips i believe it will fail not sure haven't tested much and its been long time since i setup my warp.

are you able to access internet from ip of any one device?
I've connected my server and added this range:

and saved, so now what next to do?
i am working with my main laptop and 1 server only currently
i have to use cloudflared on both devices?

my other devices don't have a static/public ipv4 or open ports, simple internet connection from their ISP.
if my devices have no internet connection from isp, cloudflare tunnels/device agent goes offline.

i mean tunneling traffic to devices using them as exit node

next install warp client on pc that needs to access that ip and connect to your zero trust team https://i.imgur.com/TZMbgHo.png
settings > warp client > https://i.imgur.com/TWDliLm.png > https://i.imgur.com/dt1uEEO.png > https://i.imgur.com/Xsg2B7T.png (can add bigger ranges here but smh i ended up adding one by one)

been a while since i set this up but i believe that all i did

i've simply used this to remotely connect to my devices rdp/vnc or docker apps and also i'm currently using it to host some personal sites and forward traffic there.
more then this i'm not really sure as i haven't had time to test it out.

I was able to achieve that state before, but when i test my ip it was ip of cloudflare warp not of my server

  • For context I tried this around a year ago and Cloudflare's docs were so bad, even after talking to someone who had insider knowledge of the ZT product we could not get it to work.

    Good luck!
