Too many choices - first VPS recomendation
Hello All...
Came across LEB whislt looking around at various VPS's.
My situation is this.
I run an email server and webserver on my home network,Just for personal family use, very light loads indeed.
I have an account with DNS Made Easy which i use for DNS hosting and SMTP.
The main reason for this is becasue my ISP (Virgin) do not provide a decent outgoing SMTP for private domains.
At the moment i pay $40 per year for DNS/SMTP
my account is due for renewal next month and im toying with the idea of dumping the DNSMadeEasy account and getting a entry level VPS instead.
The trouble is theres just too many choices and options, im onto the 3rd page of LEB and totaly confused as to what option is best.
i like the look of the Kloxo control panel.
Abilty to automaticaly backup /restore the whole VPS as an image whould be nice.
I dont need vast ammounts of disk space or bandwith.
the comments sections next to some of the offers seem very heated, just making the choice even more difficult.
Any help appriciated.
Cid.

Well most providers offer kloxo, if not its an easy install (we offer a customized version that only uses 16 mb of RAM). Finding a good provider that offers actual backups is a bit of a different story. Our policy is to offer the user backup space at $1 per 10 GB of image upon request...
Aside from that SecureDragon and BuyVM are good, so is hostigation. Not sure how they handle backups, but I do know BuyVM will probably do it fairly cheap if not they have storage plans you can get too.
Hello BlueVM.
Just to clarify...
I dont ned the provider to host the backup's.
I have a very quick link and lots of storage at home.
what i need is a simple and easy (one click if possible) method to backup wthe VPS and restore.
Also access to half sensible DNS servers would be nice.
We provide 5GB of backup storage at no cost so if that works for you, enjoy
Francisco
BuyVM seem to be totaly out of stock.
I started the process to purchase via Secure Dragon but when i change the billing cycle to 12 months i get a 404 error.
In the end have gone with Hostignation as they seem to be getting a lot of good reveiws.
have made paypal payment....
Just waititng for payment to process and VPS to be setup.
Cheers.

Check on the 23rd
Runs rapidly to post on LEB.
If that does not work out you can have a look at, BuyVM ^^ or vmport both offer 5GB offsite backup.
I'd also recommend BuyVM or InceptionHosting - I have accounts with both of them and am happy - both have backup space for free aswell.
Can't comment on VMPort or SecureDragon as I haven't used those services.

One VPS isn't gonna provide the high level of redundancy that comes with DNSMadeEasy.
Using a VPS for SMTP will present some delivery challenges, so you need to correctly configure rDNS, SPF, DKM. And fill out forms for Yahoo and Hotmail....
Just sayin'
And I can't believe no-one has suggested you use Google for mail... usually it's the first suggestion
@RancidM; Definitely check out RamHost.us and his smaller yearly packages, TinyVZ and TinyKVM.
^^^ TinyVZ speeds are INSANE for the price.
bijan.. those silly speeds (the 100mb cachefly in less than 2 seconds) still staying like that? That was nuts
Any chance you could check d/l and i/o on it with this?
wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O – -o /dev/null|bash
Cheers
