All is not sweet and light with your favorite Netherlands data centres.
It seems that after seeing how Netherlands was popular for lowend hosting providers all the major cloud and social media companies decided to invest in Holland data centers.
O Lowendtalkers - What hast thou wrought?

build a data center and be friendly & respectful to locals - that's it.
the netherlands is amazing for data centers thanks to the best connectivity in the EU.
It's not just in the Netherlands but also in the US.

Dutch farmers are angry because the Govt wants to take their farmland for other purposes on the grounds that the farms create nitrogen pollution yet they are giving data centre companies permission to start building without finishing the proper environmental impact assessments.
Actually, this one makes me pretty angry (and I'm not even from NL). There's no reason that water should get wasted, it can all be evaporated and reused. It's not like they're using it for anything but heat exchangers.
EDIT: although the edited articles claims that most of the water was used for construction, which if true means the headline is misleading. Concrete obviously uses a lot of water, but it should be apportioned to construction it that case. The original article claims that most of it was specifically for cooling though, so \o/
Building data centers in Utah is fucking crazy. That I'm sure about.
