Contabo seems to have launched a Tokyo location, wondering how it is gonna go.
https://contabo.com/en/locations/asia-japan/
They offer No Setup Fee in Japan & -50% Off Elsewhere.
Here's a note from the CEO:
Our mission is to provide affordable and high-quality cloud services to customers across the world. We are excited to launch our new Data Center in Tokyo and offer our customers in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region the same level of performance and connectivity that we provide to our customers in Europe, the United States, and Australia.
@contabo_m keeping it silent on lowendforums eh?

10TB for only 9 euros is quite fucking good. Do they have bandwidth pooling?
Looks great. This price doesn’t surprise me though, since I got a super cheap Tokyo vps from Virmach (xTom) last year.
8,99€/mo for 10TB in Tokyo is awesome!
I got the IP from their speedtest.net server
109.123.228.91
They are using AS1299 / AS6939 as their upstream
https://bgp.tools/prefix/109.123.228.0/22
HE has bad routing with KDDI, one of the major ISPs in Japan (+200ms)
Routing goes via SG -> JP.
Can't agree more.
10TB then 100mbps limit, according to the order page
What's the deal with Japan? I thought they were very skeptical to foreign devils and Japan location remain on 'ultra exotics' list. Now offers popping like hot popcorn.

It seems these subnets belong to Contabo's Tokyo location. AS1299 (Arelion/Telia) and AS6939 (HE) are providing transit.
Sorry, but this is a bit disappointing... Arelion and HE are not known for having good connectivity in Asia.
For instance, AS4713 (NTTCom), one of the three big local ISPs, won't have a usable connection since it's only peering with those transit providers in the US/Europe, which inevitably adds ~200ms to RTT.
KDDI (another one of the three) does peer with HE in Tokyo, but their port gets congested as hell every night.
I really hope this is temporary and Contabo has a plan to add new upstreams.
is their australia location any better? i remember similar complaints at the time of release
@udonworld are you from Japan? Have you ever tried WebArena by NTT PC? With my non-existent knowledge of Japanese, I'm still trying to find out if they use AS2514 as upstream... in other words: haven't found a test ip or ASN number yet.
https://bgp.tools/prefix/164.70.64.0/18
Many more subnets
They use the same AS as home fiber. (WebArena itself is not a native IP.)
The quality of the VPS itself is not very good, and processes that use a lot of CPU are killed quickly. Also, registration itself requires a valid credit card and a Japanese phone number. There is no technical support
@r3n Thank you. I'm out on the "Japanese phone number" requirement.
So then I would rather recommend going with ShockHosting in Tokyo, as they use HostUniversal as upstream which uses Datacamp. And GreencloudVPS is also an option.
HostUniversal, many Tokyo options
@Advin - AdvinServers
@speedypage - SpeedyPage
@hosthatch - HostHatch
We'll have a lot more stock in Tokyo within the next 24 hours too!

AS6939 + AS3356 in Australia. Sounds like the same situation.
Latency is not optimal, but at least its bendable.
I assume, its optimized for bandwidth instead of latency.
Our services in JP is lower pricing than Contabo with better specifications, just with lower bandwidth since Host Universal bandwidth is a bit expensive
They almost had me at -50% off.
Looking forward for that.
I refuse to buy anything from Contabo. lol
I refuse to buy anything from Contabo. lol
even Virmach performs better.
if you say that mean you have numbers?
numbers meaning benchmark from contabo? not since years back.
yes sir... fresh is always good? but not necessary or in a hurry... i trust you my king.
is that HDD?
sorry but no sir. will not waste any dollars on them.
@ehab for that i would like to nominate @jsg
No NVMe, also they don,t have any cpu usage policy.
