Meta sued Freenom for providing domains for phishing scams and what not.
In turn, freenom disabled registration.

I have a theory that Freenom has been abandoned long ago and running on autopilot for most of its existence.

• domain registration broken for years
• copyright notice stuck in 2018
• pre-GDPR website (no cookie consent, no privacy policy)
• job listings haven't been updated in 8 years
• they don't respond to abuse notices because there's probably no one to read them in the first place

CEO currently appears to be involved in a company "Yoursafe" which seems to be some weird combination of high-risk payment processor, virtual bank and domain registrar.

edit: lmao I don't think that partnership is going well

In mid July 2022 I guided a friend on how to get a free domain from them. It eventually worked.
At first we also had that 'not available' error but we managed to bypass it somehow.. can't remember much.

Given huge volumes of disinformation on Facebook.com, I think Meta should disable new registration unlimitedly to show its dignity.

I remember when I had a freenom domain and it for some reason got disabled and redirected to porn sites and shit like that. I wonder how much more they offered compared to non porn ads
