    I largely agree with @tjn
    .
    But:
    I did mess around with Asterisk (and a sangoma card) way over a decade ago (on Debian 2.6) and basically what I remember boils down to Asterisk having been a PITA and one problem after another, yuck.
    If I had to do something in that field again I'd likely use a different approach (maybe FreePBX, I remember that positively) - but I don't. Looking at today rates and offers I'd highly likely need to save quite some cost for years and years to make it worthwhile. So actually, if needed, I'd just buy a little bigger ready solution from some provider.
