[YABS] NetCup RS 4000

In case anyone is interested. This is a NetCup root server 4000 with 10 dedicated cores, 32 GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD storage and 2.5Gbps port speed. Looks pretty good to me.

I hadn't noticed because I never use it on virtual servers. Maybe they can enable it upon request? dunno

They won't enable it, at least that's my experience. Reason was they had some "trouble" with it in past, don't know specifics

Price indeed matches the specs :) good choice. I realize a dedi for same amount will be lower specs but this vps is a beast in comparison.

How much is this monthly / annum?

    31e/mo +VAT, so for me (Finland) it's 39.52/mo

Price indeed matches the specs :) good choice. I realize a dedi for same amount will be lower specs but this vps is a beast in comparison.

I checked some dedis but this was more convenient IMO

  • Great perforance and price. I have also started using them after Hetzner and I'm very happy so far.

They are a solid provider. Unfortunately many people leave shitty reviews about them on reviews sites because they don't read the terms and don't like the cancellation policy

I wish I had seen your signature before for a discount code :D

  • Netcup's service is very excellent. The only negative point is their bureaucracy. Their ToS must read before order. The price-performance ratio always very good. Congrats for this RS!

I am really liking it. I migrated several apps and they are super snappy and I still have plenty of resources left.

for that price , don't you miss the nested virtualization?
without them i feel i don't have balls.

I have never really used it to be honest. I only used virtual machines on top of dedicated servers in the past but never nested virt. On this server I just run all my apps with Docker, I don't need separate VMs etc. What do you use it for?

  • i install proxmox , and i feel like the king.

do you still use docker in production?
hey, btw, do you have elasticsearch docker.compose with certs stand lone and as cluster?

In production for work and critical stuff I run everything In GKE on Google Cloud. These are just self hosted apps for personal use, so I just use docker compose for everything.

I use elastic search with mastodon but with minimal config https://bin.botta.me/0u8r9b.yaml

I haven't needed to do anything in particular for it to work. What problem are you having?

  • BTW today I learned that NetCup has a mobile app! I installed and it's pretty nice. I can control the server on the move if I am not at home and something doesn't work /can be fixed with a restart for example. Pretty handy

  • My apps just stop working randomly on Netcup root servers. While the apps just work fine on other providers VM. No logs, nothing, just stop working randomly, few times per day.

  • Did you checked the uptime?

There are a few posts that states that netcup freezes once or twice a day the root server for a few seconds. I don't experienced this, my services are very stable on RS1000, the only downtime at reboot by kernel update.

I have 3 RS VPS with them and never noticed any freeze/reboot issues.

Service has been quite stable. The only issues were the ones posted on their status page.

  • I am a tax-free account with 26.5 euros per month. It is recommended to change your hard disk drive from SCSI to VIRTIO, which will greatly improve the read and write speed of I/O.

  • My RS4000 G9.5 geekbench5 score is about 8000 :p

Which server do you have that costs 26.5 without taxes? Also how to change from SCSI to VIRTIO? Are there any downsides?

I applied the change to disk driver to virtio and speeds are doubled:D

Is the virtio the best for networking or change it to E1000 or Realtek? My bet that Realtek might be better than E1000...

I don't know whether VIRTIO is the best for the networking. I haven't changed it

  • Loos like mine already uses virtio
