1.6 USD /mo Why nobody mentioned the Amazon EC2 AMD EPYC VPS?

Hey,

I discovered there is a very cheap VPS line at amazon.

T3A.nano
2 vCPU AMD EPYC core
512MB Memory
1 Dedicated Public IPv4
100GB Free BW
1.6 USD / mo (with 3 year no-upfront commitment)

Also if you need SSD disk that is plus, but 8GB whould be around 0,76 USD.

What is the catch?

CloudFront if you are hosting a website, 1 TB egress free each month and always free when EC2 as the origin

  • Their network is in the higher end. Latency wise mediocre really. Specs probably not as oversold as anywhere else. This offer, I really wouldn't know a use case that benefits from that. The customer service barely are able to eat bananas. Imo they fit in in the group of Hetzner, Netcup, OVH etc, except you pay more. If you miss click something you will get bankrupt at AWS. Their traffic limits really isn't of this era

You may go bankrupt if you are not careful. Personally, I won't take the risk as I can get comparable deals elsewhere.

Can be good for very small website, but I do imagine the cost if you do go over that free allocation probably will be cheaper to get a dedicated server from Hetzner, or Netcup or OVH

  • with no diks whats the point

  • if you just need a single EC2, AWS may be costly, but if you have multiple services in AWS Ecosystem, then the answer is different.

We use EC2 like t3.small, t3.medium, t3.xlarge, C5.xlarge, M5.xlarge, and M5.2xlarge etc.. with multiple EKS and multiple workloads. and happy with it.

Combined with spot and reserve instances, we only pay half the price.

  • If I understood correctly: 1.6+0.76(disk)=2.36USD/month

    • 100gb BW limit only
      I think, It's not cheap :(

I have some VPS with small resources (512MB RAM or with less) but for cheaper (yearly payment) or 1usd/month but the disk and much more bandwidth included.
And we have Oracle Cloud with much more feature for free :$

  • Naaah, go for lightsail intead.

  • 100 GB free BW

  • Like alt_ said, if you want cheap AWS, Lightsail is a better option.
