I honestly want to ask, what do they setup in registering a domain to charge 2 euros? Manual run to ICAAN's office to register?

One has to admit that 0,13€/m is a very good price for a .de domain, and I imagine that the 2€ setup fee is simply a way for netcup to make a bit of money on the sale and to slightly discourage domain hoarders from grabbing a bunch of domains

(I'm always surprised at how many good .de domain names are already taken but apparently unused)

Pretty tempted by the "RS skate" although the 12 month contract is a bit off-putting when I haven't used them before, anyone got this package? Are netcup "dedicated" cores actually dedicated? I used another provider that advertises "dedicated" cores yet the performance is all over the place.

The setup fee is likely just a one time charge they want you to pay since the renewal for the domain is so cheap.

Like every VPS provider ’dedicated’ cores are a signal of less overselling and permission to use 100% CPU 24/7

In vast majority of cases there is still some overselling and cores are not pinned to your VM

Won’t see the difference from a dedi in throughput/benchmarks, but in non-network latency/TTFB/1% lows etc you will. Though same can be said for any VPS

no. the pricing structure from DENIC (which is the correct registry) obviously impose that setup fee and they are more or less just passing it on.

in the end 2€ setup and <1,50€ per year recurring is a lot cheaper and much more fair than asking 0,50 or even 1€ per month without a setup fee ;-)
