Wordpress will become unresponsive when it comes to Videos

Having an issue that almost seems like ratelimiting, but doesnt seem to happen with firefox only chrome based browers.

Was using a plugin, but a fresh new install of Wordpress does the exact same, just adding a couple of videos as a post will make wordpress unresponsive in that window or other tabs in that window. Opening a new incongento tab its responsive until doing this again.

Happens on Mac, PC, S22 Ultra, and various other mobile devices and connections.

The kicker so far only happens on RackNerd, using another host its fine and does not happen. So far have stumped support on the issue and they've tried a few things. I want to stick with RackNerd due to the performance. Even had Dustin help with this

Any wordpress experts have a suggestion?

Seems like this person had the same issue but nothing ever came of it - https://wordpress.org/support/topic/unresponsive-site-when-playing-videos-in-media-library/

  • Have you tried running the chrome profiler (performance tab) under dev tools when running into this issue?

I havent, But Im sure a 13900k, 64GB of ram, & a RTX 3090 would have issues keeping up with a plain wordpress page. But whats strange is this does not occur on other hosts.

Profiling is more about getting an insight into what's going on within the client.

havent looked into your link but...
It seems like a SYNC vs ASYNC issue? Browser thread locked due to SYNC op? Probably a javascript issue.

  • Also check the network tab in your browser. Something might be in a loop.

    1. Which web server on RackNerd? and that another host?
    2. Did you check server stats when this happens? notice any change? Very unlikely but still rule that out
    3. Keep network tab opened when doing this and see if first video is still being downloaded when you moved to second one.
    4. Profiling!

  • Its definitely something host side. Just noticed it happens as well in directory listing. Clicking in and out of a video a few times it also occurs. I'm on the France Server on RackNerd. Taking Wordpress out of the question still happens.

Bought a Advin Servers cPanel account and it does not occur there.

  • At this point, nobody is going to be able to help without a reproducible example

Looks like an issue with Lightspeed/HTTP3. Which explains why another host didnt have this issue as they may be using HTTP2. Lightspeed support was easily & quickly able to reproduce the issue on there end.
