Musk claims that Apple has threatened to remove Twitter from the App Store without telling him why
@ElonMusk: "Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why"
Comments
Does Elon believe that he is being treated differently than others?
Sounds like Apple wants to get in a lawsuit. I'm not saying he'll win but I doubt he would just let that slide after that giant investment. You can't do that and then roll over and say "Well you win some, you lose some."
You mean the giant investment he’s pissing away?
That's fairly subjective.
Next move: Elon bought apple
Who's still using Twitter anyways? Seeing lots of trash being posted there lately. Actually, quite a few communities and companies I followed moved back to Facebook groups (or however they call this feature now).
Twitter has its own users, those who are active on twitters are not active on FB.
On side note, Must must be doing something that Apple is threatening twitter, he should tell the reason which Apple is not telling. Is he trying to sell membership and not planning to use Apple payment gateway?
I use a lot of twitter, a lot of good software devs post interesting content, I use it as an alternative to RSS these days.
I know there is Reddit, but I feel it is too restrictive, can't really have a conversation without offending someone.
If playstore and appstore both remove/block twitter; I feel like it'll be a great improvement. I read Musk says he will create a new phone/os. Can't wait to see how great smartphone can become after put under a lot of pressure for it to come out. A pure masterpiece of a phone to show them what they missed or a hunk of junk cause it couldn't handle the pressure of being rushed.
The walled garden doesn't mess around.
One more reason I don't like Apple.
He believes he shouldn't be treated the same as others.
Musk needs to start finding external reasons for running Twitter into the ground so quickly, and this is just one of them.
I'm guessing, Musk tried to negotiate down the cut from 30% because he always requires others to sacrifice for Musk's profit and Apple likely said something to the effect "you can always take your app out if you don't like our terms".
In app purchases for Twitter? That's not even crumbs to Apple.
Given the large overlap between Tesla fanboys and Apple fanboys, it's going to be more bloody for Musk. We're used to not paying for Twitter. He's fucking stupid thinking he has popular opinion on his side right now. Musk Reality Distortion Field.
Pissing off fanboys is bad for business. Apple loses an iPhone sale for a year. Musk loses a car sale.
I can't tell if you're serious or making fun of Musk regularly publicly announcing features before the Engineers that need to implement them learn of them.
I wonder which startup he'll buy out and force out the originals and then take all the credit?
Tony Fadell failed launching a phone competitor. Musk doesn't have the talent Fadell had in his pinky.
This is political.
You are left wing and don't like musk you want him banned.
I wonder how long google and apple get investigate for app store monopoly.
Republicans have the house but I wonder if they have the balls to do anything about it.
Please explain. I want Musk banned from LET or from his own Twitter? Because both are equally nonsense.
You're aware that having competition and options are signs they are not a monopoly? Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Google... and many more.
How do you penalize a company for being extremely successful? When they overreach and abuse others. Can you detail the abuse Apple is doing in taking a cut of providing their service? Their whole brand would be fucked if people could run any old random app on the Internet. Safety from malware and scams is a legit reason for locking things down and charging for services provided.
It's pretty common, many people's careers operate this way. I'm not an Apple fan, but I have to admit they earn their 30% more than DoorDash and other food driving companies that charge both the user and the restaurant for providing the same service.
No, Musk vs Apple isn't political. How are consumers being hurt? How would they be helped if the fucking Republicans got involved? It's the liberals like Bernie and Elizabeth Warren.
If anything, they need to kill Ticketmaster with fire before they talk about walled garden fees. That's a fucking monopoly and collusion, Mafia type scam.
(Reminder to Republicans, you believe in smaller governments and staying the fuck out of business affairs).
Its not nonsense. That would mean it makes no sense. To clarify I mean I believe you want twitter banned from the appstores. To further clarify I think you want to see Musk fail.
I hope they Apple/Google bring further scrutiny on them selves by threatening to do it.
Apple and Google are clearly part of a monopoly since most people access content through their stores.
Imagine if Microsoft could ban apps from their Operating system and there was technically a workaround but most users wouldn't take the time to implement it.
The issue here is that for political reasons Apple and Google are banning people from their platforms.
I think forcing Apple and Google to allow other App Stores is probably the quickest solution. That way Apple and Google could police their own AppStore and other apps will able to run on the device.
I disagree. In my opinion this is an uninformed statement and lets just agree to disagree
.
In my opinion Twitter was left wing. It was banning, shadow banning, de-boosting, demonetizing right wing figures disproportionately. With the Republicans taking the house they have a vested interest in protecting the platform as it will help them going forward.
I like the idea of smaller governments. But not the idea of no government. I think the government getting involved in evening the playing field would be a good idea in this case. Like what they did with common carrier. They also need to do this with banks, transportation etc...
120 years ago could a politician be banned from a railroad so he couldn't be effectively campaign like his rivals?
Yes, saying "him" when you mean an app is nonsense. Furthermore, you've not provided any reason I'd want the app to be banned from Apple store. I don't use it. I don't have Apple stuff. I couldn't give a fuck if it was banned or not.
No, definitely not clearly. You're making up your own definition of monopoly. They access things through the store because of years and years of developing the platform, infrastructure and customers and customers now know they can reasonably trust the app store won't let in random malware. They are providing a worthy service!
Wtf? You realize you don't OWN Windows 10, you have LICENSED it, AGREEING to terms of use beforehand. Apple, and many other companies can totally limit what you can or cannot do with their software (e.g. you've agreed not to reverse engineer the software since the start). You're acting very naive, now. No, you're acting like a Karen.
NAME ONE. Don't reply if you're intentionally ignoring terms violations as the actual reasons.
Forcing? FFS. You have zero clue the effort to make an OS and the hardware around it. You must be like 14.
Yes, if you cannot state why you believe it is political, you are uninformed.
Disproportionately? Why the fuck would you expect there to be proportionate bans when shitty people will be the majority cause? You make no sense.
How is Apple abusing the average person or competitor? You still haven't answered that. So what does leveling the playing field look like? That's some communist shit, dude.
To be clear, Twitter doesn't require their app to run from the appstore. That shit runs in the browser. So I'm really, really asking, wtf makes this a monopoly?
What? Never mind, I give up.
I've reported people on Twitter for celebrating the Club Q shooting and had Twitter's moderation system tell me they didn't violate any rules, so maybe it's about a total lack of moderation?
Musk decided to earn money without telling me WHY
Coming soon. ElonPhone
Any app banned from the app stores would lose a significant amount of revue by being inaccessible to non technical users and lack of visibility. They are also technical reasons with the app having access to features that the website would not.
For this reason they Apple and Google hold a monopoly.
Surely as a person on a forum like this you must be intelligent enough to know that?
Getting booted from playstore is comparatively ok because users can just get the apk and sideload it. It would suck more for Apple users as sideloading is not at all easy
Oh, additional reason: Twitter has reportedly been planning on monetizing porn, basically their own version of OnlyFans. Apple hates porn.
Twitter has allowed porn forever.
Some users on there partly to look at porn.
Those users could then be advertised to on other content.
It almost seems so though people are trying to say if twitter is eventually banned by Apple then here's this other justifiable reason that has nothing to do with politics.
This is all about politics.
Musk now wants to build a smartphone.
next what an OS?
and then might be search engine too
Twitter allows porn since forever, but it's an early and very large social network - they get away with stuff others can't, for now. Apple and Google both apply much stricter rules to smaller/newer apps. (see for example how Google treated non-explicit nudity on ArtStation NSFW)
OnlyFans has an app on Apple's store which includes 0 nudity at all, because Apple doesn't permit that. Is that ban a political choice by Apple targeting the right wing, or something?
If Twitter announces you can buy porn on Twitter using Apple's payment system, Apple will 100% tell them to fuck off.
It's 100% business and definitely not political. Elon musk made these 2 tweets back to back.
(Tweet in OP)
Most likely, twitter wasn't processing payments for their verified subscriptions through the app store. It would not be the first time the app store removes apps for trying to evade the 30% "tax".
Major corporations don't care much for politics. Their main priority is making money, and if they were somehow left-wing or right-wing (like you claim), then they do that for a reason. The politicians they support would bring forth policies that are beneficial to their business. It's all business motivated.
I think they definitely care ALOT about politics. As practically none of the high level management are apolitical.
The politics become less important when money comes into the picture. If apple could make 30% tax off all ios twitter users, they would allow it regardless of the political alignment of twitter. There's a problem now (probably) because twitter tried to evade the 30% tax. Where's the politics in this?
On another note, elon musk himself has said that he was left wing in the past, but now he is right wing. It doesn't come as a surprise to me because tesla was and is heavily reliant on government subsidies for EVs. He's already lobbied successfully and made decent money off the government. Now it's time for musk to play the other side
Does politics play a part? Yes, but who cares about politics if you could be making money?
Money >>>>>>> Political alignment / censorship / free speech etc.
FB is nearly 10x the size of Twitter in terms of monthly active users... There's going to be a lot of overlap between the two userbases
