Mastodon craze hasn't hit LET it seems.
I love my own instance of Mastodon, and a bunch of other AP apps. I sort of expected to see a flurry of new accounts and posts asking for the right kind of server to also self-host Mastodon. But it's pretty quiet. Is no one other than @vitobotta running Mastodon?
I've brought it up in my real life circles, and crickets. No has either heard of the Great Twitter Migration, and more so nothing about Mastodon, or AP or anything. Oh well.

Trying to run akkoma (pleroma hard fork) myself, but still in the early faces and registrations have to be approved right now. Have to figure a hole lot out.
From looking at the stats over the past couple of days it seems that the growth has started to slow down quite a lot already compared to the first few days. I was also kinda expecting more people from this community to be on board already, somehow
I'm personally over there, already followed @vitobotta and @Daniel15 which posted their handles on @vitobotta's thread. Curiously I found about @vitobotta being on fedi before reading LET because a friend boosted his first post.
I'm not self-hosting an instance, I've been into another one since like 2019, as I've been around the fediverse during years. I have a bunch of friends around too across different instances. It works nice, although I'm not personally an avid user of the Fedi or social media in general.
What is your handle?
Never been a big fan of social media, but akkoma sounds interesting
Might be a good choice to run on one of the upcomi ng Black Friday idlers
I don't like socialist media
The trend is not going to last, but freesocial.co will be around unless and until abandoned software with no migration path forces me to either take up the code base myself or abandon it.
Can someone explain why you would want to run an instance, as apposed to just creating a user on mastodon.social?
If everyone signs up on one server, it's all centrally controlled by whoever owns that instance. The purpose of the app was to decentralize social media. That's why you and I can both have our own servers and follow each other. You can't control how I use mine, I can't control how you use yours, but we can still talk to each other.
masturbateon, id rather ditch social media if there would be a news platform instead.
Like what @jar said. On someone else's instance the Local feed will be full of whatever others on the instance are posting. On the bigger ones there is a lot of fluff and nonsense, stuff I don't care to see. Then, lots of stuff from whoever the others all follow make it to the Local and Federated feed. Still, lots of stuff I don't care to see. Sooo, when I host my own, there is far more control over what I see, and (so far) more actual interaction with other users (whom I've followed) posting interesting things. Plus, I think it's cool to be @yourself@your.owninstance.com, much cooler than @yourslaveself@some.otherinstance.com.

I upgraded already
/me Registers masturbateon.com.
imo, the word "tweet" is now a noun and it refers to twitter. So i don't see other social media replacing it without any dramatic change or generational shift (Facebook -> Insta/Snap). For general public, as long as they can tweet and follow their interests they are happy and don't care about ownership. So, musk is just hustling to get all the negative publicity possible to market twitter.
