A few things I'm always looking for in resellers.
Reputable company / support / transparency.
Good & recent hardware if using colo'd services.
HA Networking is also a plus.
I'd also love some decent Brisbane servers because the variety for that is really low.
I currently pay around $50 AUD p/yr for my Sydney VPS's which are both 2 vCPU, 2GB of Ram, 40gb/100gb SSD. 1-2TB Bandwidth.
Couldn't have said it better.
Exactly.
BL is basically Online.net without quirks and francité. It all works very well, and has the backing of a larger business (Mammoth) that does hosting at higher pricepoints but gets all the benefits of the business systems that their parent has.
Quantum Core also has a similar structure with GoHosting as the parent. The do lose out in a few areas in pricing where IP's are significantly more expensive than BL, but are good and friendly people and support is good.
I had not seen much of Ransom IT lately but they are still around although prices through them are higher. They are still good people with good product and a solid and profitable business, so will be around for years to come.
Most of the others come in at business-level pricing and support/SLAs - Web24 and Crucial. Dealt with Web24 in a previous role, also generally very good support even if the prices are higher. Being in private DC's and less reliance on the same locations and links where everyone else is can definitely be an advantage.
I'm security engineer, other folks are cloud/software engineers.
1 core, 1GB RAM, 10GB HDD/SSD, 2TB Bandwith, $12/year or $1.5/month
make it Triple and we will move to you
This probably only My personal bias but I need
I okay using old CPU, but more importantly is stable possible.
2 vCore, 4 GB RAM and ~50 GB SSD and 1TB Bandwidth (This BW probably impossible) for under 10$, its okay for yearly price
What are the must-have features for a good, affordable VPS
1) Custom OS with complete control from admin panel
2) Firewall ports manageable
3) Scalable hardware based on the needs like core , ram and storage.
4) Easily transfer the location from one to another if Blacklisted IP Happens
5) Monthly plans and yearly plans with affordable price
6) Should able to choose the OS and the Distro wit some free and paid control panels.
7) Extra ip can be purchased at additional cost if required.
8) Backup or mirror option is optional if required.
How much are you willing to pay for a good VPS? please incl the specs as well.
2 vCore, 4 GB RAM and 50 GB SSD can be billed up to $20 per year.
maybe 5-10USD
@hostinguo
Friendly advice? Don't compete in hosting only.
In fact, here 99% of people will know how to get a better deal in AU.
Focus on your service instead - maybe shared hosting, website design, editing,
etc. Most of the people I know with professional websites (not in AU, it's a general rule)
don't even know what the server costs. They buy it as a whole admin package, with some
wordpress tweaks, maybe PSD edits, and the price of $100USD/mo is not strange to them.
Involucration
Look at HDD storage 250GB 500GB etc. Its common to get SSD/NVMe VPS but not storage in Aus
well, the moment has arrived
We'll be drawing the lucky winner shortly
So sad, giveaway that need a year to get the prize
i dont even active back then.
So for now let me add my ideas for you, try accepting crypto if possible
@hostinguo are you located in Australia? Iv been planning on launching my own small time vps hosting business to gain experience in cloud and virtualization environment. I'd be happy to help you guys out with support and maybe even setup 1-2 amd ryzen nodes. Inbox me if interested.
Must-Have Features for a Good, Affordable VPS:
CPU Performance (vCPUs):
Ensure the VPS offers sufficient virtual CPU cores for your workload. The number of vCPUs will affect how well the VPS handles multiple requests and tasks simultaneously.
Recommended: At least 2 vCPUs for most general use cases.
RAM (Memory):
RAM is essential for the smooth running of applications. It determines how many simultaneous tasks your server can handle and how efficiently your server runs under load.
Recommended: Minimum 2GB RAM, but for larger or multiple sites/apps, 4GB or more.
Storage (SSD/NVMe):
SSDs provide faster read/write speeds compared to traditional HDDs, and NVMe storage can offer even better performance.
Recommended: At least 20GB SSD or NVMe storage for lightweight projects, and more for data-intensive applications.
Bandwidth/Traffic:
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data transfer your VPS can handle in a month. Look for VPS providers with generous bandwidth or unmetered plans.
Recommended: 1TB of bandwidth at a minimum, unmetered plans are even better for high-traffic websites.
Operating System Choices:
A good VPS should offer flexibility in terms of OS choices (Linux distributions like Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, etc., or even Windows if required).
Recommended: Ensure the VPS provider offers multiple OS options, and ideally, an easy reinstallation or migration process.
Control Panel (Optional):
Some providers offer free control panels (like cPanel, Plesk, or custom panels) for managing your VPS without requiring deep technical expertise.
Recommended: Look for VPS providers that offer easy-to-use control panels, especially if you're not comfortable managing a server via command line.
Backups:
Automated or easy manual backups are essential in case something goes wrong. Ensure the VPS provider offers this option either as part of the package or as an add-on.
Recommended: Daily or weekly backup options, with the ability to restore easily.
Uptime Guarantee & Performance (SLA):
Look for VPS providers that guarantee a minimum of 99.9% uptime and have SLAs (Service Level Agreements) to ensure your VPS remains available.
Recommended: 99.9% uptime and strong server stability.
Scalability:
As your needs grow, you want to ensure that the VPS can be easily upgraded without downtime or complex migrations.
Recommended: VPS providers should offer easy upgrades to increase CPU, RAM, or storage as your demands grow.
Support:
Good customer support is critical, especially when dealing with technical issues.
Recommended: 24/7 support, ideally with chat and ticketing systems, and quick response times.
Security Features:
Ensure the VPS comes with basic security measures like DDoS protection, firewalls, and SSL certificate support.
Recommended: DDoS protection and ability to configure firewall rules. Optional managed security updates.
Customizability (Root Access):
Full root access or sudo privileges are a must if you need complete control over the server's configuration.
Recommended: Ensure the VPS offers root access for flexibility in setup and installation.

It's been 2 years since this was posted, does the winner have to wait 2 years to collect the VPS?
it takes time for us to get the service ready the way we (and most of the users in this thread) want. It's not just a cookie-cutter WHMCS :-) We will announce the winner today.
able to add storage drive at low price:)
Mostly ppl are ok with old hardware but need to be stable
Different network provider, some route have higher ping
In my case bandwidth is not huge deal , something like 250mb could be a Job done for most user i guess
Reputation, i prefer goes for yearly plan to grab some discount
Price for something normal could be $15-30/y
And For something special $25-50/y
Here is the list of users who provided valuable and constructive advice, which we truly appreciate. We will randomly select the winner using https://miniwebtool.com/random-picker/

Edit: Oh, this is a 2022 post. Happy to know that you are ready. Good luck!
Pricing, the best bang for buck possible!!!!
For features I would like to see good IXP peering and that IXP peering traffic be unmetered. It's awesome to be able to use a VPS between my ISP and other things like YouTube over an IXP and not have to pay for that traffic.
This hasn't been done as far as I am aware, if you can promote free IXP traffic and have good IXP connectivity to reach more locations on a settlement free basis, you can open more use cases just like PipeNetworks did back in the day and turned ADSL data caps on their head.
I think its interesting to see how the market is growing and growing.
there are some locations around the world ( asia, oceania ) that would be interesting.
Please do not offer lowend servers for shit prices around 3 € to the community. We have too many providers for too less prices. Offer quality hosting services. Lowend is not always the best
having the ability to install custom OS would be nice
Are you aware that no such thing anymore as DA internal license?
The bandwidth is expensive in Asia / Australia, I don’t think anyone be able to provide unmetered or huge amount for a peanuts cost, check OVH as they do have limitation on bandwidth in that area!
@WebProject This is an old thread from 2022, Just check when it was posted. Internal License ( Datacenter (Internal) Licensing ) was there till 2023.
https://docs.directadmin.com/getting-started/pro-pack/license-changes.html#datacenter-internal-licensing
Humm, I'm surprised to see this after two years.
How should I claim the prize?
We know people forgot but we want to keep our promise
and well, somehow you are also the lucky one
Please drop me a DM so we can get you a 1-1 VPS free for 1 year.
Thanks everyone.
