Investment by Automattic in Gridpane
This was rather expected- investment in a SaaS server management player after Digital Ocean's acquisition of Cloudways. What comes as a positive surprise is news of strategic investment by Automattic in Gridpane. While specifics are awaited, the post by Patrick, cofounder of Gridpane, can be found here.

p.s: I am a long-ish time Gridpane user, we run multiple VPS'es and sites using their service. One of the better SaaS for Wordpress management, that is newbie friendly and has fairly good documentation.
Runcloud and Server Avatar could be among the next in line in this space.

Never heard of Gridpane. Good?
Their stack is really good from my experience.
Good stack, but not fully stable yet I'd say. I randomly got my whole interface spammed with PHP errors without every terminaling into the server manually (so whatever broke it, their system did, it came after I switched PHP versions too fast I think, lol). All sites stopped working on the server at the same time.
But it's extremely fast. Not very different to RunCloud.io honestly, and RunCloud.io also gives more freedom to do more things than WP, and provides more features for the low-end guy (who might agree to paying 10 a month, but wouldn't pay 50 a month and therefore would use RunCloud.io paid vs. GridPane free.
RunCloud.io also does preloading very easily.
Addon: For WP, backups dosen't get much easier than RunCloud.io either.
With a few clicks, all my sites backup automatically, every 12 hours, to RunCloud.io's own backup storage, as well as S3.
RunCloud.io + Lightsail is my current setup for personal WP sites, plus Route53 for DNS and S3 for backups.
@emgh thanks for the info.
I recognize a fellow HighEndUser....
AWS products... check.
In 2018 or 19 I was at a decision point whether to get runcloud or gridpane. I asked someone in the know which of the two they would opt for , if money was kot a constraint. They responded : gridpane.
Past ~ 3 years I have had mixed feelings- it is a product aimed towards agencies, not for solopreneurs or if you have 2 or 4 sites. Feature wise one of the best that’s available today.
Configuration comes with limitations like many…
Kvm + ubuntu 20.04 (till last year it was 18.04). Preferably 2c/ 2 GB vps with atleast 25 gb disk space. Base ubuntu + gp stack takes up abt 12 gigs of space. Feature Updates for the lowest paid tier are a little slow to come by.
What I like is attitude of founder, user interface, focus (wp only) and short learning curve. Backups, creating staging sites, cloning or migration of sites, (a little more than basic) security, all good to have.
Haven’t used runcloud in a while so cannot compare, but well worth the money spent IMO.
Hope that helps.

What plan was this? What did support say?
yes, I've tried gridpane (free forever plan) on racknerd vps. it works well. but it much more disk space and resources as @vyas11 stated in his comment above. I was looking if gridpane would be that greedy and could be used on 1gb cpu/1gb ram KVM.
@emgh did you ping our support to try to pin down the issues that you were having?
We're currently powering over 100K websites, so if this was some kind of systemic problem there would be an awful lot of noise about it.
If you want, drop me a video message (click on my big fat head in the bottom right) and talk us through what you were seeing.
I'll have someone on the team connect with you directly to see if they can replicate the problem.
Note: this process was started months before the CW/DO announcement. So the relative timing was completely unrelated.
Cheers, y'all.
No evidence apart from everything going down. Never contacted the support just migrated away. If you send me a PM what I could do is give you the email used, if you keep logs for that kind of stuff (probably just 1-2 months ago).
If you do you might be able to fix it, if not, I don’t think we’ll ever get to the bottom of it.
