Looking for VPS Server for Image Upload (not-hosted)

Hi,

I'm looking for a VPS that's ideally managed for the technical aspect - and I do my thing via the DirectAdmin user interface - already own a personal licence (1 domain).

Use case will be Chevereto image upload script - The images** are not stored on the VPS** . However, they remotely stored @ BunnyCDN. It's purely the script.

Currency: GBP paying Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly (depending on discounts).
Location: UK ideally but not too fussed.

Requirements:
Minimum: 1GB Ram / 1 CPU (When running with minimum requirements it is recommended to add swap space)
Cron jobs.
PHP v7.4 + (v8.0 when I update to Chevereto v4 towards Nov/Dec)
Apache HTTP w/ mod_rewrite enabled.
upload_max_filesize = 64M;
post_max_size = 64M;
max_execution_time = 30;
memory_limit = 512M;
PHP extensions:
BCMath
curl
exif
fileinfo
gd
hash
imagick
json
mbstring
pdo
pdo-mysql
session
xml
zip

I have a VPS currently already from RackNerd (4GB / 3 core) but after giving it a go it seems SSHin' and command line is not my cuppa tea and the site is down daily (currently down with CloudFlare 521 DirectAdmin refusing to start). Ugh.

Think I will stick to the easy life of just using a control panel (ha).

    Why not get a shared hosting? Image hosting should most likely be fine as long as image isn't taking up their unlimited storage and bandwidth

  • @Copper why not get a shared hosting from @speedypage with BunnyCDN already included for free?

    Thanks for the mention :)

    We can indeed meet every one of your requirements or exceed them, including having a UK location and billing in GBP. We do include free BunnyCDN and would be happy to assist with linking a pull zone to your own storage zone. Cheveretro also looks like it'd have no issues running on cPanel: https://v3-docs.chevereto.com/setup/server/cpanel.html#chevereto-files

    You can find our pricing here and the code 'LET20OFF' will give you 20% off recurring: https://speedypage.com/web-hosting

  • Using CDN for (free?) image hosting will get extremely expensive. Most of the biggest Chevereto sites use OVH directly. Making money on image hosting is almost impossible. And dealing with all the porn, CP and DMCA is a full time job.

    SQL limits. When upgrading goes wrong and I need to restore my backup(s) my .sql file is simply too big for most shared hosting (via phpMyAdmin).

    I've used Shared since 2013 but last month I had 3 upgrade failures and had to email support to restore my database (12hrs) and website was down for that period. Had enough, went to VPS but the SSH life isn't for me it seems I need managed lol.

    Yep, never had an issue using it with cPanel for 8-9 years. Only tried DirectAdmin on my VPS because cheaper + year. Granted it's being retired August 1st, 2023.

    My BunnyCDN has 4 Pull Zones (64MB, 1.75GB, 0.71GB, 0.82GB), 1 Edge Storage 108,847 images (44.29GB) out of the 300k limit.

    I pay-as-you-go, Topped up $10 in June 11, 2021and have $2.92 balance remaining that's 4 websites and 40,000 images (split into 3 thumbnail, med img, full size).

    Granted image/video content is pricey, but Bunny so far is pretty cheap vs If I had say a 1TB hetzner (which most chevereto sites with 1M+ use) it's fixed $3.45/month where so far Bunny has only cost me $0.26 in August is 3.36 GB with an average cost of $0.0118 per GB.

    I never plan to make money or profit, it's always been at a loss for the 9 years I've had it. Just good for friends. Rarely promote it.

    If you need a VPS/Shared Hosting. we can provide it:here

  • You should add terminal access to your requirements, that way you get access to the Chevereto CLI. With that you can run database updates without using the HTTP layer.

    Also, when dealing with new install/updates there are shell scripts for this purpose (Debian/Ubuntu). Here a sample for a new server.

    Offering full data (dns, dbs, mail, files etc) migration from DA to CP?

    How will Bunny CDN work with enterprise if I already own a pull+storage zone? - 108,847 images (44.29GB).

    We do offer a full migration of data from any web control panel to cPanel, free of charge.

    Regarding the CDN, if you're looking to use our free included one, you would have to use a new pull zone I am afraid as these can't be transported between accounts. It'd be a new pull zone that points to their storage API URL as an origin, and then we'd create a request header edge rule to pass the AccessKey in all requests. This would allow you to keep storage in your own account at no bandwidth cost.
