What are some applications and services you would never host yourself?

Until recently I thought I'd never host email and password manager anymore but I'm doing it again. I still have active subscriptions with Zoho for email and Bitwarden for passwords so I haven't decided yet if I will keep hosting them or just use those managed services. I kinda feel that email and passwords are critical so not sure.

What about you? What are some things you prefer not to host yourself? (provided that otherwise you like self hosting stuff in general)

Recurring fee vs lifetime vpn provider, probably. Plus it can be a pita to always get new server when flix blocks your vps provider. Vpn providers will just make sure things keep working.
Still, there could also be good reasons to self host vpn (e.g. white list ip or access to router/home network etc).

A VPN with a static IP can be handy IMO

ISPConfig. Fortunately my provider detected it and suspended the vps.

Pornhub, if you run your own you wouldn’t get that wonderful element of surprise.

  • I hosted my own LET once. Wouldn’t recommend.

Email - A huge pain to deal with when it comes to delivery and spam.

It's actually easy these days with Mailcow and similar. I am just worried about relying on a single server for this.

Any delivery issues to google workspace and MS exchange? Those are the most problematic for me when I hosted my own e-mail.

For me I have some lifetime VPN subs and I keep my $5 boomer.host VPS to watch Hulu with since it doesn’t work on keepsolid half the time

Email support retry mechanism if you're server is temporarily down. Just ensure you have good backup abd restoration process and you are good to go 🙂

Idk about him but I paid 12$ for a lifetime sub to a residential proxy/VPN, it never gets blocked by netflix and other streaming services and there is no way for me to set up a cheap residential proxy in another country myself

Get a residential proxy, fastestvpn has one (their "streaming" servers). And it costs 12$ for a lifetime sub

Residential proxy? AFAIK you’re misusing that term. Also fastestvpn doesn’t get past Hulu on my phone

You need to set protocol to udp then a "usa streaming" server will appear that you can use that has residential IP

FastestVPN, they give you OpenVPN profiles for USA, UK and Indian resdential proxies(only web traffic is proxied, normal traffic just goes through a random datacenter IP, but good enough for streaming)

That is from ip2location. The ISP shows up as "Verizon" on the US server and "Virgin Media" on the UK server

Look I can PM you the IP and you check if it's legit or not. It's a rotating proxy so I don't care if you have it.
