Looking for cheapest storage server VPS for documents backup

Hi:

I'm looking for some cheapest storage VPS for document backup.

Requirements:
1. 4TB at least, hope to have 6TB+
2. at least 1GB memory, 2 vCPU
3. KVM virutalization, not OpenVZ or LXC (or if you provide deli, that's awesome)
4. 2TB/mo bandwidth with 500Mbps+ port
5. at least can offer/29 IP Block (5 usable) for IPv4, and provide IPv6 block.

Location:
Anywhere on earth is OK.

Budget:
For everything besides IP, I can pay around 10-15USD/mo.
For IP, I can pay 1USD/mo.
Total budget: not exceeding 20 USD/mo.

Any provider that can meet those requirements?

  • Always makes me judder when I see the words “cheap” and “backup” together, unless multiples or being used (a redundant array of inexpensive backups).

It exceeds your budget a bit, but you should probably get a SYS-1-SAT-32.
4x2TB for $27 a month. You can get 5 IPs for a small one-time fee (1.5$/ip if I remember correctly). OVH is one of the very few companies I would keep my important data with.

You should also keep in mind it's a 250mbps upload / 10gbps download (in most cases).

  • What about Hetzner combo?

    CPX11 (4.3USD) + BX21 5TB (11USD)

You can mount BX21 to Hetzner VPS and you will have... 2 vCores, 2GB RAM, system on NVMe and mounted storage box for data with about 10Gbit port and 20TB/mo transfer

Unfortunately the price of IPs is terrifying (3.3USD / mo)...

    So to sum up:
    CPX11 + BX21 = ~15USD

When you say 'documents' you mean '4K porn', right?

Who the fuck has 4TB of actual documents?

That what I'm thinking. 4TB is a whole library not just some docs.

Or needs 5 IP's to access the same content that's accessed over DNS name?

500Mbps for document transfers? Yeah, I'm calling bullshit.

FYI, it's better to just say it's for porn or warez right from the start.

If it's for 4k porn, I can create you a VM with a 4TB disk on KVM, backed by RAIDz1 (ZFS equivalent of RAID 5) storage, with 5 IPs for $20/month at OVH BHS.

If just backups, that's fine as well :joy:. Just no torrenting/illegal stuff please :)

Plot twist: OP's porn stash is in a folder called "Document".

  • A friend of mine ask for sharing "Documents" and he is very hurry.

What's the CPU on these? KVM? Port speed?

    I'm kinda interested

These are Intel Xeon D-1541 vCPUs. And yes, KVM. Port speed: 1 gbps out and 10 gbps in.

    The actual servers themselves:

    • Intel Xeon D-1541 (16 vCPUs @ 2.70 GHz boost)
    • 32 GB DDR4 RAM
    • 1x 512GB NVMe cache
    • 6x 12 TB HDDs (60 TB storage after using 1 disk for RAIDz1)

These are basically just used as backup/archival/random storage for my startup. I'm running a 2-year commit on these servers, and I have a bit of extra space, so in case some LET users need space, I might as well share and get use the money to buy some drinks :joy:

So a VM could be created with the following specs:

    • 2 vCPU (or 4 if you need, it's literally 2% all the time)
    • 1 GB DDR4 RAM
    • 5x IPv4 (owned by OVH)
    • 4TB storage, backed by ZFS with 1 disk for redundancy like RAID 5 and a 512 GB NVMe cache
    • $20/month

Can I get 2GB RAM so that I can have a bit of breathing room for seafile?

If so, PM me a link to buy this asap please

It depends on how you make the backup. For example, Macbook Pro certain model has only 256GB of memory, but you may create a time machine backup with multiple checkpoint and it may reach around 3TB for around 1 year.
