We have our public Mastodon instance for years, for 100 users and 100GB storage, a VPS with 4GB RAM is enough, but I recommend you use at least 8GB RAM or even 16GB RAM if you want to enable full-text search with ElasticSearch.

Like Trump's Truth Social, I just learned today that Gab.com was also built on Mastodon. However, half or more of the other Mastodon instances (Servers) block Gab so it's isolated from them.

Possible. From what I see there are a good amount of dependencies, but we are getting better at managing more complex pods with many containers. So never say never.
