OVH GAME-2 servers Singapore misleading bandwidth advertising

edited March 2022 in General

OVH released their GAME-2 servers with AMD Ryzen 5800X in Singapore today.
This is a warning for everyone that plans to buy this. OVH is misleading you!

On their website they promise 1Gbit bandwidth @ 25TB, but you actually get 250Mbit upload.

OVH website:

and vps providers on OVH servers also advertising as such. real shame.

  • kdhkdh Member

It's same with other OVH services.
Sometimes you get Kimsufi/SYS servers with 1Gbps, OVH servers with 100Mbps, and so on.

I don't get it why aren't they also testing network speeds.

Yeah but I bought 10 of them and all have the same 250Mbit upload instead of thw promised 1Gbit..

That cant be just a mistake

  • Well they really need to write down what the actual upload speed is on order form. For me when visit site and see "1Gbps unmetered public bandwidth" means same IN/OUT speed.
What is their upload speed on Europe locations for this same GAME-2 plan?

I got some in Germany and they are 1Gbit OUT

Yeah its limited to 250 Mbps out in APAC regions. But its not explained in order page or in order process.

Have fun disputing it after paying for 10 servers lol.

Yeah that’s going to be fun. Support also told me that it should be 1Gbit from internal communication, great communication at OVH again :)

I'm so sorry. But yeah OVH has been known to limit to 250 Mbit upload. It's unfortunate that you spent so much on it.

  • Answer from OVH support. Burst option is not working btw.

Well they probably refund me so easy because I pay for business support and have over 200 servers at OVH.

Im not sure how they react to "normal" customers

    Hello @jordynegen11 and all,
I'm investigating this issue urgently and will come back here with a definite answer but as stated the Game-1 and 2 servers hosted in Sydney and Singapore should have:

    • Outgoing -> 1 Gbps with 25TB traffic included (or paid option for unmetered)
    • Incoming -> 1 Gbps unmetered
Thanks for your patience and apologize about this confusion.

@OVH_APAC That is a pretty bad situation for OVH.
    1. you guys rely heavily on automation, so I'm not sure how this can happen to start with.
    2. you can get fined for false advertising in many countries for this and that will not get cheap considering in how many countries you have local companies and every local consumer protection agency will target them and not the parent company.
    3. you could get sentenced to refund every affected customer 75% of their server rental for the last 3 years if the judge is not that competent.

So please get this right! for your safety and for client satisfaction. Thank you.

My account manager and some contact I have at OVH says it should be 1Gbit. However support still tells me that they got confirmed the 250Mbit limit is correct.

Either way its a big mess at OVH again and even support claims the information on the website is not correct, OVH hasnt update their website yet.

False advertising is not OK and the fact OVH didnt update their website yet shows us they dont really care.

  • A little bit offtopic, on that new plan what are the list of possible OS to install?
    Any CentOS7 on the choices?

    Thanks!

Got a final answer from the OVH support:

Not only a 250Mbit limit on this server is for most not unusable, instead of taking down the product from the website untill the false advertising has been removed, they keep misleading customers probably for weeks untill they edited their website.

Despite the OVH support repeatedly told me that the website was wrong and the 250Mbit limit is correct, my account manager just told me that it's the other way arround. The switches in Singapore are not configured correctly and tomorrow my servers will get the promised speeds.

There is no ETA yet when a general fix will be released. What a drama.

CentOS 7 is not compatible with Ryzen 5000 at all.

OVH just changed their website after 3 weeks.

GAME servers on ALL locations now have 250Mbit upload (1Gbit burst). That's a downgrade on the European locations aswell.

I just got confirmed that the burst rule for the game servers is:

    125Mbit 95% measured over a 6 hours timespan.

If the server uses more then 125Mbit 95%, the burst will lock itself for 6 hours at 250Mbit.
OVH... wtf are you doing. I Swiched to Path in Singapore now and take my 40 GAME-2 servers with me. Bye
